    The ASUSTeK support site http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/list.... only supports up to this stated processor "P4-2A GHz (Socket478, 400 FSB, L2 cache:512KB)". It seems that your answer or solution is perhaps better suited for the P4S533-MX, and not the P4S333-M as one would assume if one were not paying attention?

No, it will not work because the chipset can't support anything beyond 400MHz. You can see that yourself here

Can I upgrade my CPU to an Intel Core 2 duo 1.7

You are basically limited to what was optional on the model. So you can only upgrade to one of the following cpus:

Intel Pentium M 745 (1.8-GHz) with 400-MHz front
side bus (FSB)
Intel Pentium M 735 (1.7-GHz) with 400-MHz FSB
Intel Pentium M 725 (1.6-GHz) with 400-MHz FSB
Intel Pentium M 710 TJ85 (1.4-GHz) with 400-MHz FSB;
operates at a lower temperature than other processors
Intel Celeron M 340 (1.5-GHz) with 400-MHz FSB
Intel Celeron M 330 (1.4-GHz) with 400-MHz FSB

And you are limted to 2gb of ram max on this model.

I want upgrad my dell dimensons prtocessor but i dont know anyu that will fit its 479 slot any sugesstions

According to Dell here are the CPUs that your motherboard (if you have the original one) can use:

Intel® Pentium® 4 that runs at 1.80, 2.00, 2.40, or 2.50 GHz internally and 400 MHz externally;

Intel Celeron® that runs at 1.70, 2.00, 2.10, 2.20, or 2.30 GHz internally and 400 MHz externally.

So, if your current CPU is slower than any of the above, you can replace it with something like this Pentium 4 (2 GHz and cheap) or this Celeron (2.3 GHz) new or used (very cheap) this Pentium 4 (2.5 GHz). Looks like 2.5 GHz is the maximum recommended speed for the motherboard.

Your motherboard supports 2 different fsb's.
look these up @ cpu-world
you can use:
Intel Pentium 4 processor (478-pin)
- 533MHz system data bus - supports up to 2.8 GHz
- 400MHz system data bus - supports up to 2.4 GHz

Intel Celeron processor
- 400MHz system data bus - supports up to 2.0 GHz CPU speed

UPGRADING TO 2 GHZ

1. Check user documentation for supported CPUs for your system.
2. If 2.0GHz CPU is supported on your system, you don't need any additional software.
3. I would upgrade the BIOS firmware first. It might have an additional CPU support.
4. Read information from you old CPU. Exemple: 1.4GHz/256/400. 1.4GHz is a speed of your CPU. 256 is a 256k cache, and 400 is 400MHz BUS speed. In general you can boost speed to 2.0GHz or more and cache to 512k, just keep your BUS speed to 400
5. Post your system model or your motherboard model. That information would help in determining the maximum speed of the CPU for your system.

Good lick!
