Hello! I have a JVC DVL-505 and want to connect to my laptop. My laptop only have usb, So can I connect my camcorder dv in to my laptop usb? It also have S video. Wich one would be best?

Hi,
As far as I know this camera has firewire not USB. I've heard it's possible to find a USB to firewire adaptor. try googling USB to Firewire. You could try S-video but the quality will be poor.

Best of luck!

Sofware jvc type gr-d53ag

What is the problem with the camera? If it is to transfer the video and photos.
USB can be used to transfer photos.Use Firewire instead of USB for video. For video you can use Windows Movie Maker as your capture/editing program using Firewire.Hope this helps.

Hello, I connected my DCR-HC54 (minidv) to computer using USB cable (come with camcorder). latest PMB is installed on windows 7 64-bit home premium. It gives following message: Cannot find the Handycam...

This type of camera usually downloads better with a Firewire (DV) connection. Sony call this "i.Link". Some mini-DV cameras only use the USB connection (if they have one) for stills and can only download video by Firewire. This is because you have to play the tape into the computer, not just copy a file. According to a list on the Sony site, your particular model is not one that can use USB for video transfers to computer.

Most PCs have a USB port, but no Firewire port. Macs often have a Firewire port but may not have USB. As most Windows PCs do not come with this interface, you might need to fit an add-on Firewire interface card. This will come with a driver for the card.

Suitable Firewire (DV) cables can easily be found on Amazon or eBay. You will need the kind with a small (four pin) connector at one end and a larger (six pin) connector at the other.

Sony have a help page for your camera, with tutorials and downloads, at THIS LINK

Windows movie maker will not regonise my video camera which is a JVC GZ-HD320. It was suggested I get firewire but the camera does not have a firewire port.

Go into a search engine such as GOOGLE and type in the word driver with the model name of your camera. An updated driver is needed it seems for your Windows Movie Maker

We would like to import footage from the Panasonic NV-GS 400 digital video camera onto a MAC - is this possible

Yes, you can transfer the videos from the Camcorder to the Mac Computer.

Connect the Camcorder to the Mac Computer using i.LINK/Firewire or USB cable.

I suggest that you use the i.LINK/Firewire cable to connect it to the Computer. The i.LINK port is also called IEEE 1394 or Firewire port. An i.LINK is a black D shaped connector with 4 or 6 pins. The type of cable to be used will depend on the i.LINK port of your Computer.

After connecting the Camcorder to the Mac Computer, open the iMovie Application to capture the Videos from the Camcorder and follow the on-screen instruction to complete the transfer of the videos.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I Have a jvc digital video camera Gr-DVL1020 and i am triing to download the video tapes on to the computer but it will only do the still images. Is that all it can do? Can you not put the movies on too?

hi again
right............. here we go
your tapes are of the dv type so you need a firewire lead. there is a socket on your camcorder marked ilink or dv. you will need to check your p.c. to see if it has a firewire port. it will be on the back and looks like a fat usb port. if it hasn't got one you can buy a firewire card and fit it yourself, its
fairly straight foreward. both items can be sourced from maplins or most computer shops for about £20. software is also needed and you should have got some with the camcorder. its usually not very good so i would suggest you try pinnacle studio 8 or 9, this you can get from e bay for £10 to £15
its very easy to use and less complicated than adobe premiere for instance.
if you get stuck contact me through this post.

Im trying to import videos from my mini dv tape on my digital Video camera JVC GR-290u i plugged in a usb cord from my camera to the computer but nothing came up. when i switch from video mode to memory...

As it's a DV (Digital Video) camera you should use the IEEE 1394 Firewire socket if it has one. Then use a DV capture program.
If you dont have a Firewire port on your PC you can buy a card like this one which will connect you Camera to your PC.

Problem attaching a CCd camera to laptops

Usually all cameras & peripherals connect to a laptop using USB or a Firewire port. Almost all new laptops carry USB ports, some have firewire too. Otherwise USB can be converted into firewire using a convertor. Just check the connectivity of your CCD camera and take a decision accordingly. Bye Vishal
