Dead scepter x22 monitor

I have a scepter x22 monitor, that powers on, but the led blinks on and off, like its in standby mode. When i plug it in, it makes a spark kind of noise, every time. Does this sound like a capacitor problem to you? if so, since its out of warranty, should i open it myself and check it out? would pictures of the capacitors or board help identify which ones i need to replace?
