Question about Apple Ipod Nano Second Gen. Green (4 GB) MA487LLA MP3 Player

1 Answer

Empty Disk I had an green iPod nano, not sure of the generation it is. I get an "empty disk" message when I go to the 'music' opiton. Window's Media Player does not give me an option to format. For some reason BEFORE this happened, I was listening to the music, but noticed that there was something call "ROOT" that had a little more that 11:00:00 hours I thought that was strange and deleted THAT, not knowing that I would mess my iPod up. Now all it says is Empyt Disk!" I can go to WMP and Sync some songs but it doesn't seem to let me go and listen to it. Just how bad did I mess up?? I bought it from a "friend" it worked fine when I got it from her, she didn't do anything, I messed it up. I feel foolish. Thanks for any help you can give. "Root" is the root directory - definitely not something that you want to delete. Go to Apple's website and re-download the firmware, and hopefully it will re-add the missing folder.

Hi, basicly i got my blue ipod nano 2nd gen off my friend and when i downloaded itunes suddenly all my music was deleted and a message saying empty disk and when i try to sync music i have errors on every...

Normally, you cannot sync an ipod to more than one system at a time. You have to wipe out all the songs that it previously occupied before so that it can accept songs from a new computer.
It is quite normal for all the songs that were previously on it to be flushed out when you connect it to a new computer.
Now to the main issue of getting errors on every song, this is not normal.
The only solution to this is to restore the software using the itunes program.
This will help you format the memory of the device thereby removing any sort of system errors or malfunctions in the system of the device.
Hope this was helpful? Please comment for more information and thank you for using fixya.

Memory loss on ipod

The ipod nanos the smallest product in the Apple iPod line. The fourth generation Nano comes in two different capacities, each capable of holding thousands of songs.
    Capacities
  1. The fourth generation iPod Nano comes in 8 GB and 16 GB models. The 8 GB version can hold 2,000 songs, and the 16 GB version can hold 4,000 songs.
  2. Tips
  3. Song capacity estimates are based on music encoded in Apple's proprietary format at a standard, average bitrate. The higher the bitrate, the better the quality. Songs deviating from Apple's standard (for example, CD-quality music or high bitrate MP3s) will use more disk space.
  4. History
  5. Nano's predecessor, the iPod Mini, was released on January 6, 2004, and was available with a 4 GB hard drive. The Nano was first released on September 7, 2005, and was the first iPod to use flash memory. It was first available in 2 GB and 4 GB versions. The fourth generation Nano was released on September 9, 2008.
  6. Size
  7. The fourth generation iPod Nano is 3.6" tall and 1.5" wide.
  8. Video
  9. The third generation Nano, released on September 5, 2007, was the first Nano to feature video playback. Storing videos on Nano can dramatically reduce the amount of songs it can hold.

Disk empty & the file cannot be created

well the first question i would ask is how you are transfering music and video to the ipod. The reason i ask is because it sounds like you are not using itunes. itunes is the only way to actually put content on any ipod. with all that said when using itunes connect the ipod witht he provided cable and push the restore button on the summary screen for the ipod which should appear in itunes when you plug in the ipod to the computer you are using. after it restores you can try adding music and a video and see what happens

EMPTY DISK

I would say just try to reset the iPod then if that doesnt work, Retore it. Just follow the five R's of Apple and you can never go wrong:

Reset, Retry, Restart, Reinstall, Restore

No memory

It might be possible you put it into disk mode and accidentally copied some files to it, try to use the "restore" option in itunes...

unfortunately I have also seen this problem in first gen Nano's who's memory has just gone bad, if restoring it doesn't fix the problem, I hate to say, but looks like you need to buy a new MP3 player.
