Question about Toshiba Satellite A25-S207 Notebook

Sound driver After reinstalling windows xp, my sound stopped working. I found out that the driver is out of date, but when I try to update it, it gets halfway through the installation then quits for some reason. Can you help?

    I was able to succesfully install the driver, which was a change, but I guess that wasn't the problem. There is still no sound...

    laptop was really mesed up and put the recovery disc in and now it works but no sound and even through head phones

    Suddenly sound stopped working through the laptop speakers and even the headphone. I just moved my laptop from one bench to another. I have checked control panel and the hardware in System Devices as well. I would appreciate any other tips.

Do you have windows XP or Vista? In Vista, First try uninstalling the Ethernet adapter and rebooting the machine. The Vista OS should ID the hardware and apply the generic driver, if not run Windows Updates, make sure your windows updates are up-to-date. Unresponsive usb and sound

Did you try the system restore to go back to a date where you were before the updates? I have had this issue and that worked for me---those window updates can cause problems.

The updates can I believe be manually deleted or removed but I have always used the system restore to create a date and set it back to that time.

After reinstalling my windows i tried installing a sound driver since the sound wasn't coming but it doenst work still.. I am using Dell Inspinron E15.. series

~To download the manufacturers and therefore correct drivers or specific software;

Always get your drivers from the manufacturer of your Laptop, Notebook or Desktop.

If you were to log on to the manufacturer's web site, usually one is able to download if available, by model number, All available Driver downloads as required.

If the driver is not available, perhaps your manufacturer does not support the OS you are installing.

This is the best way of ensuring up to date drivers for your system and they are free of charge!

There are no XP drivers to be found with Microsoft as XP is no longer supported.

Some manufacturers may have a limited number of Drivers still listed.

I had to reinstall windows xp pro and now the sound won't work. I've installed all the available updates. Any ideas?

you need to go into your device drivers and make sure that the driver for your onboard sound is up to date as well you should be able to locate the name of the device or audio card and simply type that and driver into google to find the appropriate program if you would like to post another question once you have the name of the audio card installed we can find it for you that way too

My H12y lost it's sound when Window xp was reinstalled. Can you help me on how I can put it back? Thank you.

Download it and then install that should get the audio working again. I would also download the other drivers and install them too.

Java(TM) Platform SE Binary has stopped working.

I had the same problems and found that the new driver i had upgraded to for my NVidia card was the culprit. I rolled it back and my problem was fixed. Hope this helps.

Media device is not found for sound

I have some questions for you:

1) what did you do right before this happened?
***********Did you just get the computer?
***********Did you just install or uninstall something?
***********Did you just reformat / restore your computer
***********Anything else?

2) is your title "Media Device is not found for sound" an error msg, or your impression. What exactly are the symptoms.
*********** Is the sound just not working
*********** are you getting this msg
*********** Other

Pending your reply (and depending on the answers) here are some basics tips. Maybe you will luck out:

-Check if your sound card is activated in BIOS (when you start your computer you should see a function key mentioned to "enter setup" or some similar statement. Prob F2.
***** if option to restore to defaults exists consider using it.

- Make sure you have the correct drivers for your operating system. If Vista, consider 32/64bit.

-Try to reinstall the drivers again. Start by uninstalling them in your "Device Manager" (not disabling but uninstalling them)

-If this does not work go directly to the sound device manufacturer's website and download the most current driver there. Follow the above steps of uninstalling and install the new drivers.

-If this does not work try less current versions of the driver. The newest drivers do not always work as well as the previous versions.

-Download a new chipset (google the word chipset for info) you can find this on the manufactors website usually by using their search bar or by browsing "downloads"

-If you know when this problem began > go to Start > Control Panel > Add remove programs > choose the "Show Updates" box at the top > beside "Sort By" choose "Date Last Used" > Now look for windows updates that occurred around the time of problem began. If there are any remove them.

** Restart your computer. If still not working, try to reinstall the driver.
**** If this fixes it remember that the Microsoft Update will likely try to update onto your computer again. You will have to stop this.

- Printer updates (especially HP) have been know to mess with other drivers. Consider uninstalling your printer temporarily. If this works, just disable printer updates when you reinstall.

- If the problem is only the fact that there is no audio (no error message) Check if you can get sound out of a pair of headphones. Often times there is a problem with the electrical feedback loop that turns off your computer sound when you plug in headphones. Make sure to wiggle them around.

- Sounds stupid, but make sure the driver is "enabled" as well as installed.

-If you are comfortable using MSCONFIG, I would look at each of your services and startup programs for Malware. You can google MSCONFIG for detailed instructions. Briefly: Click Start > Run > Type "MSCONFIG" > OK > Under the startup and Services tabs check each item to see if it is supposed to be there. By googleing any of these wierd names you should be directed to a several sites which explain each of these processes. Make sure you run some scanning software as well.

Sound/Wireless gone after reinstall XP

I'm not sure what your inistal problem is, BUT:
it sounds as if you do not have a sound card, and need to reinstall the sound card. So:
First: go to the Microsoft XP website and install ALL updates. If the sound worked before, you may need to reinstall some updates.

Second: Go to My Computer icon, click on Properties, and go to Device Manager. Find the sound card, and make sure it is enabled. If it says device driver not found, then--->

Third: Go to the manufacturer's website, and download the install ofyour sound driver. Look up what your sound card manufacturer is and go to their website. It should tell you in the Device Manager.
