DVD/RW drive My DVD/RW drive sudden;y won't read cd's. When I tell it to open, it spits the cd out and tells me to insert a disc. It read them fine earlier. It is a Matshita DVD-RAM UJ8505

Um, I bought the computer last week brand new, and it has nothing to do with burning, since didn't burn anything. If all I needed was a new one, I could get that on my own. I was looking more for common configuration for these dvd-ram drives that might prevent them from reading cd's.

I have a Dell Inspiron 9400 and I've tried to burn and import CDs on iTunes, play DVDS on Quicktime, and use program CDs for various programs on my computer. I've gone to "My Computer" and it shows every other drive I have BUT the CD drive. It's simply not reading my CDs.

Hi, it seems ur DVD drive is little bit aged. or sometime it happens that, after an overburn it stops reading cd. any way it is possible to repair the drive in either case, or go for a new one.

When I insert blank DVD disc into DVD/CD-RW, and click it say insert the disc?

Hi,

My first test would be to determine if the blank DVD is faulty. Try using a different brand of DVD and see if you get the same error. My experience tells me that your combo drive is faulty however. It is possible for a combo drive to read a CD but not a DVD. I would replace the combo drive with a DVD writer as they are not too expensive.

Best wishes,
Graemevm

My dvd/rw drive reads all discs, but not able to

It depends on what you have in your disc player that tells it what it is if nothing then it shows CD player if you put in a DVD then it will show DVD drive, go to start click on my computer then right click on properties then go to hardware then device manager then click on your CD/DVD ROM drive and right click on it and click update drivers if that does not work then you may have the Wrong DVDs I have had that happen where I had DVD- and it was supposed to be DVD+ also the right protect could be on what your trying to record and you would have to use your program to un-protect it to record. hope this helps. Thanks for using fix-ya

Cannot play disks

There are 2 lasers, one for CD and one for DVD. Most likely, your DVD laser is not working right. The new firmware update only supported more media: http://www.techspot.com/drivers/driver/file/information/7669/ (link to update and details) DVD burners are cheap now a days (I just got a DVD lightscribe burner for $40 at CompUSA...Who is also going out of business)

Samsung DVD-R135 / R136 - Will not load blank discs

Hello, First be sure your using the correct disc DVD+ or DVD- RW etc.

I would recomend using high quality discs as players/recorders are very picky about cheap media. Try using Imation name brand discs. They read well in most anything. If it has worked fine & then started having this problem I would first check to see if your using the same discs that have always worked with it & if so then you may want to open the unit & clean the laser lens with a cotton swab lightly soaked in rubbing alcohol. Especially if it has been smoked around or is in a dusty environment.
