I sounds like you have the video card set to a resolution that is higher that the E177 can handle. It can only go to 1280 x 1024 resolution. You will need to boot into safe mode in windows and set the resolution lower than that so the monitor can show it correctly.

Dell Monitor - Model # E173FPT: Power light is on, however monitor screen black. No internal light from the rear panel

Hello,

You have a failure of the power supply board. The problem is caused by parts called capacitors that have shorted and this causes the backlight circuit to stop working. Here is a link to a page that show how to repair the power supply board and get the monitor back going again.

I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.

My monitor shows the Dell logo and then goes black, what do i do?

hi, it is quite likely to be capacitors. Check for any bulging capacitors and replace them, most likely on the power supply circuit. Take care as these are live parts. I hope this solves your problem.

Dell S2309W Monitor will not power on.

Sch will be really hard to come by since Dell does not really make the monitor, most of them are made by SAMSUNG and BenQ.
Send me pictures if you want, may be I can help you identify the bad parts. budmrtn@aol.com
That symptom may mean the power supply goes into shutdown mode due to short circuits.

Monitor gone black but shows self test not floating

Sounds as though the control unit has died. There are 3 parts to most monitors. The video processor board, power supply board and the HV/backlight board. You can replace the video processor board.
Make sure you leave the unit unplugged first and set for an hour. Usually no other fix then replace the board.

Monitor Screen goes black seconds after turn on-

I ended up fixing my problem, but I'm not sure what the solution is. I had some faulty electrical equipment that I was using to power the monitor (220V to 110V converter and a bad power strip) and I got rid of them. I was using the converter because I moved to Israel and I thought I needed to feed the monitor only 110V, but I now realize that the power cord for the monitor has a built-in converter that accepts 220V input. Now the monitor is plugged directly into the wall and is working fine. Try using a different power source (maybe the wiring or plug you're using is faulty). Good Luck!

I've had a very similar issue on many Dell Monitors. Mine have been under warranty and they usually send me a new monitor, but I believe the issue lies with the power supply within the monitor.

It is probably either a CCFL back light issue inside the LCD or a set of capacitors on the inverter/power supply board.
Would you be willing to part with it ?
