Question about HP Photosmart C4280 Aio Printer

2 Answers

Phantom FDD After I installed my HP C4280 printer I noticed the "Remove Hardware Safely" icon in the lower right of the task bar. I also noticed that when I go to "My Computer" there is a FDD listed that I have no idea where it came from. Are these issues connected? Any info would be appreciated.

Yes, these are both related to the memory card slots the printer provides. When a memory card is inserted in the printer slot the card will be available as a drive on the computer, and files may be copied to and from the card.

To ensure data safety wen removing the card after writing files to it from the computer it is best to use the "Remove Hardware Safely" icon from the system tray.

My brand new Canon IP 100 pixma printer wont print cause it's saying "offline." I've turned it off and on numerous times. What can i do?

Hi, please follow this instruction to make your printer back to "online". Notice that i have used Epson Stylus Photo R230 as a model for the instruction, but this procedure also works with canon.
1. Please try to print a document. (word, excel etc.), 2. Now, if you already notice that your printer is "offline" by clicking the printers icon at the task bar.

The task bar can be found in the lower right part of your screen.

3. All you have to do is, Click on the "printer" tab 4. And then remove the check mark at "user printer offline" by clicking on it.

5. Once done, you will notice that the "use printer offline" will disappear and then let's you print the specified document again.
I hope this helps.

There is a document in the queue that will not print or cancel. It is stuck and will not allow me to do anything else. I have turned off, unplugged and disconnected the printer from everything to no...

Have you searched along the task bar for the printer icon? Right click on this and it should present a list of documents for printing. Highlight the one you want to get rid of and then use the options to delete. Next try using Task Manager to get rid of the task. Finally remove the printer from your hardware in the Control Panel and re-instal. Hope this helps.

Default Printer Issue
The wrong printer is set as the default. See the image below for an illustration.
What to do
Open the Printers or Printer and Faxes folder and locate the correct printer icon. To do this:

    1. -In Windows XP, click Start > Settings > Printer and Faxes (or Start > Control Panel > Printers and Faxes).
-In Windows Vista, click Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Printers.

    2. Right-click on the printer icon, and click Set as Default Printer. A check mark displayed above the printer icon now identifies it as your default printer.

    3. Try printing again.

Topic 3: Printer is "Offline"
The printer is set to Offline and the printer icon appears washed-out.

  2. Right-click on the printer icon, and select Use Printer Online.

  3. Try printing again.

Topic 4: Printer is not Ready
The printer is in an "Intervention Requested" state (e.g. paper jam, paper out) but no Windows print error notification message is displayed.
The print job cleared the print queue. This means the print queue icon has disappeared from the notification area ('systray') of the task bar. The printer is holding the job, however, until the the printer is returned to a ready state.
What to do
Check the printer LCD, or operator panel menu, to verify that the printer is in a ready state. If not, return it to the required status.
Topic 5: Printer is Paused
The printer or print queue is paused and the print queue icon remains in the notification area ('systray') of the task bar.
This is typically an end user error. Dragging the mouse cursor over the print queue icon in the notification area will reveal (1,2,3) document(s) pending for (User name).
What to do

    1. Double-click on the print queue icon to open the print queue. (This may also appear as a small printer icon in the lower-right notification area of the task bar.)
    2. Click on Printer in the upper left-hand corner of the menu bar.
    3. Is there a check mark next to Pause Printing?

-If yes, click on Pause Printing to turn off this Windows feature.
-If no, confirm that there is a check mark next to Set As Default Printer and make sure Use Printer Offline is not selected.

Topic 10: Windows Print Spooler Issue
A problem with the Windows print spooler is preventing successful printing.
What to try
Stop and start the Windows print spooler. To do this:

  • -In Windows XP, click Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services, click on Print Spooler, click on Stop the service, and then click on Start the service.

  • -In Windows Vista, click Start, type services.msc in the Start Search box, and then click services.msc in the Programs list. Right-click on Print Spooler, and then click Stop. Finally, right-click on Print Spooler again, and then click Start.

Remove the first print job from the print queue. To do this:

  1. Double-click on the print queue icon to open the print queue. (This may also appear as a small printer icon in the lower-right notification area of the task bar.)

  2. Click on the first job listed so that it is highlighted.

  3. Click on Document in the top menu bar.

  4. Click on Cancel.

  5. Click Yes when you see: "Are you sure you want to cancel the selected jobs?"

Topic 11: Other Issues
Other possible causes of a print job not printing include:

  • -USB connection problem if locally connected only.

  • -Firewall issues preventing communication.

  • -Workplace virtual private networks (VPNs) preventing communication. VPN tunneling may be required to ensure successful communication. Enabling this feature may require network administrator approval and assistance.

  • -Document formatting.

  • -Driver settings.

  • -Application-specific issues relating to the application's Printer Setup.

Topic 12: Last Resort
If you have tried all of the above suggestions to no avail, try the following:
  1. Reboot your computer and try printing again.
  2. Turn the printer off and on, and then try to print again.
  3. Install a different printer driver, e.g. PCL, PostScript, HBP, or XPS driver.

Lost cd for C4280 all in one ,how do I down load on my new computor

You go to HP Support, and download the software.

(BEFORE you do this procedure, be sure that the Photosmart C4280 is ->Not, plugged into the computer with the USB cable. C4280 should also be off, and not plugged into power)

This is HP Support, and the page where you choose your Operating System.

This page is for the Photosmart C4280, and after you choose your Operating System, it will go to the software page.
Since you did not state what operating system you are using, I will choose Windows XP as an example.

(However I have viewed both the Windows XP, and the Windows Vista software, and it is the same for what You need. If you have a computer with MAC on it, it is different)

On the above page you will choose ->
HP Photosmart Full Feature Software and Drivers.
(Date: 07-2007 Version 9.0.1 Size: 150.1M)

Left-click right on -> HP Photosmart Full Feature Software and Drivers.
You will now be taken to another page. On this page towards the top, (Left), are the words ->
Download only>>, in a blue bar.
Click on this.

A small window will pop-up on the right. Click on Save File.
You may or may not see a download progress bar. You should, but if not it's okay. Wait 1 minute to insure the file has fully downloaded, then close all windows, and go back to your desktop screen.

If you do not have your downloads set to go to your My Documents folder, (Start>My Documents, with Windows XP. Start>User>Documents, with Vista),
this file will go to your desktop screen.

It is a yellow folder with PS_AIO_NonNetwork_ENU_NB.exe, under it.
Double-click on it to open this file.
The Installation Wizard should now come up. Click on Agree, (If listed), Next, and Next again, then Finish.
If it asks you if you wish to restart your computer do so.
If it does not, do so anyway.

When Windows loads back up, plug the USB cable from the printer into the computer. (Never leave a USB cable dangling from a computer. Always unplug it from the computer)
Plug the printer into power.
Turn the printer on. You should see a "Found New Hardware" out of your task bar at the bottom. Also perhaps a "Found Photosmart C4280"

Go to start>Hover on All Programs>HP>Photosmart C4280, and to the Help Guide, if you have problems, or questions.

Cannot find my cd installer for hp deskjet d2360. trying to download for free installer. can anyone help?

If you have internet access go to hp downloads from google. If not, connect your printer to your PC (computer) turn it on. If your OS is XP the found new hardware balloon should appear above the icon on the task bar, click the balloon and the add new hardware wizard comes to the screen, read and follow prompts, as it will give you a list of some recent and current hp printer products to choose from. If the balloon as mentioned above does not appear, click start, click control panel, double click add hardware icon, and the add hardware wizard comes on screen, choose your options and follow the prompts. NOTE; if the printer has been installed on your computer previously, and your OS has not been altered (formatted) this is an easy task for the wizard, as there is a shadow copy of the necessary drivers stored in the memory of your hard drive. Hope this helps.
