This is how the immobiliser system works........you have a remote,it has 2 codes,one is fixed,one is random,the random code changes every time you lock the car,and this is the code the car reccognises to open/start the car.the fixed code is for simple key reccognition.the key has a magnet inbuilt that has a fixed code that matches the remotes fixed code.if you use a wrong key,the car will start,then die.the flashing light on the dash is a warning that the key code is weak and COULD cause a malfunction.use your spare keys and if the light still flashes you may need to have the keys recoded.(NO. YOU CANT DO THEM YOURSELF as the VW computer diagnostic computer has to match then reccognise the key to the car.) thats why when reseting the keys/car after a battery is changed you must go through the set/reset as shown in the handbook(that nobody seems to own).
