Question about Two-Way Radios
GREETINGS I AM A HAM RADIO OPERATOR WITH A NEW VERTEX REPEATER THAT I AM INCORPORATING INTO MY SELF SUPPORTED
CONVERTED AMBULANCE TO ECOMMS AND I HAVE BEEN TRYING FOR 6 MONTHS TO PROGRAM THIS REPEATER TO USE AS A MOBILE ECOMMS REPEATER FOR ONSITE EMERGENCIES. VERTEX GOT GOOD STUFF BUT..... THEY GIVE YOU A 3 1/4 DISKETT TO PROGRAM AND INSTALL AFTER READING THE VARIOUS HAM SITES AND INSTRUCTIONS IT TAKES A 386 COMP TO PROGRAM NOW WITH ALL THE EMERGENCY SERVICE COMMS OUT THERE GOT TO SOMETHING MORE SIMLIFIED I AM COMPUTER LITTERATE AND BUILT A FEW PC BUT THIS HAS STUMPED ME . THANKS TOM .S
This probably doesn't help, but sometimes a much slower (older) computer will work where a faster (newer) will not. The Motorola's are notorious for this. Others, too. USB is USB, a standard--so that's not your issue.

I recommend you **** can the USB cable and get a RIB and Rib cable. The GP300 Motorola software is available online for free (I can give you the web page address) and works just like the real Motorola software. I have programmed at least 20 GP300s with it with no issues. A RIB is the only way to go. Everyone has nothing but trouble with USB cables. Particularly with newer radios like the CP200.

Are you using an old computer with DOS ? You cannot use a 'modern' computer, even Windows 2000 will not work. I had to use an old piece of junk and use the serial cable. What software and what computer are you using. You can contact me via QRZ if you want more info.
