Question about Sony VAIO F360 Notebook

1 Answer

Laptop problems I'm no computer expert so bear with me, please. I have a Sony Vaio F360 bought used. Here are the problems: The pointer freezes up for no apparent reason and sometimes the whole screen freezes up for no apparent reason and all at random. At other times, the pointer will go haywire and the least touch on the touchpad will make it fly all over the place, selecting, various buttons and windows. Then at other times upon rebooting, the screen will stay dark and windows will not load. I tried to use the system restore #1 disc that came with the laptop, but the only file on it will not open. The Dos screen comes up with an error message. I have files on this computer that I would like to put on a USB, but the computer does not recognize the USB. I would like then like to restore the computer to factory settings to get rid of all of these strange freezes and stuff, and getting rid of most of the current programs to make space on the hard drive. I also need good virus protection for it -- free if possible. I hope I made sense and mentioned what was important. This computer will be a big help to my son who has finally decided to do something with his life and get trained as an EMT.

Hi

possibly ur system has a virus or a spyware.
visit www.donloads.com
go for "AVG" it usually comes for free.
also go for some anti ad ware and spyware(can be found on this site also)

run a whole system scan

if there is no virus found then i am afraid u hav to reinstall ur OS.
in any case do let me know.

Sony vaio fan is making a grinding noise, how can i fix this?

The sony VGN-S460 seems to have an inherent problem with their cpu fans. It is apparent that the fan uses a ball bearing system which over time becomes worn and causes the grinding sound.

The only solution is to replace the entire fan assembly as they are inseparable.

Laptop Freezing Problem

To be honest this still sounds like a fan problem. The freeze will happen if the laptop overheats. Maybe you should have it repaired again by a different company.(ask for the fan to be replaced!)

Possibly you have a programme running in the background that is causing the freezes, could be a screensaver. i think at sometime microsoft will issue an update that will fix this problem.

External hard disk problem

control panel, computer management, storage section, disk management. you may have to download the administrative tools for windows xp/2000/vista to find this. if you have multiple memory card readers, the drive letter assignments to these drives are conflicting with the drive letter that is being assigned to your external hard drive. assign the partition of your hard drive a letter not used down in the alphabet (such as x:) for e*X*ternal.
