I had the same exact problem on the same exact day! I tried looking up how to fix it on the epson site and got to the "please call" page. Unfortunately they only help on weekdays when I'm at work and nowhere near the printer. Were you able to find a solution?

Epson CX 9400 is garbage. I bought one from Best Buy. I successfully used two cartridges. After printing two pages on the third cartridge, the printer stated that it cannot recognize the black ink cartridge. I called tech support, they suggested that I exchange the printer. I exchanged it. The second printer says the same thing. I called support again. They sent me a third printer. It did the same thing. Now I am writing you regarding this situation. I repeat Epson is GARBAGE.

I purchased an Epson Stylus CX9400 Fax Series printer in may 2008 and up until now it has functioned just great. Now out of the clear blue, I keep getting an error message that states, "Can't recognize cartridges". I replaced the black and the magenta cartridges and I continue to get the same error message. I have been a fan of Epson printers until now. The machine will not permit me to uninstall it and attempt to reinstall the printer, since I can not remove the error message. Please advise of a possible fix for this situation.

I finally got mine to work after researching a bit. apparently, if it has an issue with one cartridge, the whole machine goes down. since it kept complaining about "m69", i bought a new magenta cartridge and voila! problem solved. its ink doesn't last as long as my last epson, **** what it has printed is very nice. ive been printing with "black ink only" lately and that's helping too conserve the colour inks.

If you already have tried reseating all of the inks and and inks are still not recognized, Please contact Epson tech support for a replacement ink or if they find out after some diagnostics that it is the printer that is having an issue they would be replacing your printer.

Cx 9400 is garbage! The epson quality went down. I bought new cartridges from staples. While it was printing it stopped to say that it didn't recognize the cartridge.
epson is a joke.

How do I get printer to finish process and start over to get it to work?

Just an innocent question: are you sure you are using proper cartidges? Didn't you mess them somehow?
If carteidges are ok, placed in proper slot, and your printer can't recognize the ink cartridge it's because you have some serious problem with ink cartridge or your printer. This problem can't be solved finishing a,process.
Try removing cartidges and preplace one, remove it and replace the other, maybe the problem is with oe of them

False ink empty

Are you sure its exclamation mark?..
This warning message related to print head. (warn out). When you are replacing ink tube assembly use dummy print heads to do the priming (new ink tubes are empty & they have to fill with ink)..
Action: Remove all cartridges and print heads, switch on the printer follow the screen message.(Insert cartridges first next dummy print heads).once its recognizes cartridges then it switch over to print heads, insert dummy print heads. Once printer recognized the dummy print heads, printer will perform priming, during priming dummy print heads will filled with respective inks.(follow the display message)Remove dummy print heads & insert normal print heads. Wait till printer recognizes print heads, load the paper & wait till performs the calibration, once calibration is successfully done issue closed.
If calibration not successfully done, check align print out for which print head is not printed properly, replace it..
Pl ensure that minimum 50% ink levels required in cartridges before performing the priming. Best of luck..

Hy everyone.I've got a problem.I am having canon pixma MP190 and when i click "Print" the printer shows "The following ink cartidge cannot be recognized : Color".Please i need help !

is there an error code, i know with cannon it has to be there cartidges or you will get and error code( as in a #) now i also remember that on a canon both cartidges have to be in machine and in the correct slots and in a tight position. try hitting ok on printer and see if it prints even though you get an error message that would tell me it is bypassing the ink cartidge and then if i were you go back through the steps i the manual for replaceing an empty cartridge with a new one .

hope it helped

Compatibility of Ink cartidge.

The MP600 does not use the 40 or 41 cartridges, it uses individual color (and black) ink tanks. But other models (MP190, MP460, MP470, etc) do use these cartridges. The error message you are receiving indicates that the printer does not recognize the cartridge you installed as a valid black ink cartridge. This can mean that either the cartridge is faulty, or that the printer has a problem.
I would suggest trying another new cartridge, and if you still get the same error, to contact Canon for support options if the unit is still in warranty.

Black ink not recognized

Select printer, properties.
Select printing preferences, select advanced.
Select more options.

Make sure you do NOT have Use color cartridge for all black printing selected.

(I had set that a while ago when my black cartidge ran out when the kids had a paper due - I forgot I had reset it. Once my color cartidge ran low, everything printed pink).

Let me know if that works for you.

Cartidges are not recognized

Verify that you are using Canon(TM) cartridges. The technology has progressed to where they have modified the ink to be identified by their printers. You cannot currently use refill cartridge inks to refill Canon cartridges. If that is not your issue, then try removing and replacing the cartridge(s)and reset the ink level indicator.
