Question about Frigidaire 14 Cycle Tumble Action Washer

Frididaire Tumble Action Washer

When I start my washing machine it works fine until it is time to change cycles. This is when problem begins. It will not change cycles on its own. If I manually turn the dial to change cycles it works but it will not do it on its own. My machine is 5 years old so I am wondering if it is due to age?

I have an old frigidaire washer, model #FWS445RFS2 with the exact same problem. So far, we've depressed and jiggled all the knobs, so I think they're ok, but now I don't know what timer to buy. The one I think I'm supposed to get (GAP131436800) is running about $150 and I'm wondering if it's not just better to replace the machine. Does anyone know where we can find discount parts? Is this easy to replace or do I need to leave it to service experts?

Make certain that all speed selection buttons are operable. Depress all of them back and forth to eliminate any corrosion
on the contacts.
If feel certain that the buttons are ok then you may have to replace the timer.

Kenmore 3.5 cu ft front load quiet tumble action washer. Will not stop cycling, leaks, and shakes violently when spinning.

The shaking could be due to a defective drum support bearing. The shaking also could have caused the door seal to fail, resulting in the leak.

Was wondering if the washer is supposed to fill to certain level at wash cycle?

Yes. On top loading machines, it is very easy to see. On front loading machines, not so easy to tell. Front load machines fill to a very low level, (which is why you should only use 1 to 2 tablespoons of HE soap with them) then when they begin to tumble (wash motion) the clothes absorb water, causing the water level to drop, resulting in the fill of additional water until the original water level is acheived again. This process generally takes several times to get all the clothes saturated and the water level to stabilize. Additionally, water valves may cycle on and off several times as the machine adjusts the water temperature, even if you were running an empty washer through a cycle. Gentle cycles will use more water, as more water = less abrasive scrubbing action. Normally, using front loading machines, you will not see much if any water through the door window.

Frigidaire tumble action washer will not agitate or spin. Drain water fine. One of the shock absorbers is broken. would this be the problem? The belt is fine.

Yes there are several balance switches in the unit and if the shock is broken at least one switch has been activated. If you were to some how bypass the switch the unit would be very dangerous to even be near during the spin cycle as it would try to walk, tumble or jump across the room! The switch is a safety feature for all concerned.

Please get your machine repaired.

Will not go into tumble action

Because F04 is not a clearly defined failure, the possible cause of your situation is a timer, a lid switch, a belt, a drive motor, or an agitator.

Solution, before proceeding watch your timer (does it follows its cycle?) if no replace timer, if yes, then check your lid switch replace if defective, check your belt if it broken or worn replace it, check your drive motor for functionality, and check your agitator--your agitator can become worn, strip out the spline that allows it to properly grip the shaft.
