Everything you listed indicates that your hard drive has crashed, sorry, it will have to be replaced.

Hello my laptop keeps saying no operating system found

This is a problem with recognizing your hard drive or the Operating System installed on the hard drive. Put your Windows 7 or Vista CD into your drive and restart, booting to the CD drive. Try to repair your startup problems. If this does not work, you may have a hard drive failure.

Hello I have a asus 1001p netbook that doesn't

Sounds like a job for a repair shop that can attach an external drive to it and reload the operating system.

When turning on system sylvania name will appear with a message at bottom of screen telling me to press f2 or f10. If I dont press anything it will go to a black screen, at the top left corner it says...

Well, let see, it saying that operating system is not found. This mean that there is no operating system loaded. It is 80% that your hard drive is currupted 19% that the operating system is damage if your harddrive is not damaged... unless you have a operating system load to a external source such a usb thumb drive, flash driver. If you didn't. then most likely your hard drive is currupted. The only way to see this is to press the f2 or f10 which ever key that load the bios menu which is a blue menu after you press it. Then see if the hard drive is detected. If not then your harddrive is bad and needs to be replaced and a Os is need to be reinstalled in order to work. If you have another laptop or a desktop that can accept sata drive, you might want to test this if the other computer would detect it as in some case the expansion slot for the harddrive could come worn out and couldn't read your harddrive. But most of the time, it is your harddrive, it is bad and need to be replaced.

Wont boot and says that no operating system can be found

Get a recovery disc for your computer (OS or a partitioning/utlity tool). You need to find out if you lost the MBR (the where is the OS information), the partition, or if the hard disc failed.

It's very likely that any repair attempt may reformat your hard disc. So consider a Live CD rescue tool and backing up if you haven't been consistently doing so. (Attach a USB hard drive or external optical drive for the backup data.)

Good luck and I hope this helps.

(who has a computer smart relative who reformatted the computer without salvaging the data to find out the hard drive was failing and that was why it lost the MBR the first time.)

My nc10 reported the 'operating system not found' a week or so ago. I've tried everything including trying to reload windows xp from a USB [as the netbook doesn't have a cd drive] At this point I just want...

Sound like your hard drive has crashed so bad that the notebook does not even know it is there. I would replace the hard drive and try to reinstall from external cd-rom . Make sure the external cd-rom is recognized in the bios settings Good Luck

Hello, I get the folliwing message by starting my laptop dell inspiron 5100: The operating system not found. Please could you provide any solution to solve the problem. Thanks. Chahin

this happens when there is damage to the windows installation, or the hard drive itself. test your hard drive using an external hard drive casing, if the hard drive works then you can just copy your files to another computer, then reformat the hard drive put it back in your laptop and reload windows

How to reformat my laptop? I don't have Cd rom, no floppy disc, its notbooting in usb flash drive, i dont have external optical drive. Whatshould I do? Thanks in advanced, acer 340t travelmate

If you could go to Avira and download there rescue disk on the flash drive, plug in the flash drive while the lap is off and start it with flash in.

Then you can run the rescue in dos( dos is before windows starts)
You said you could not because of windows, this rescue will scan
the entire hard drive, and if you have something like a rootkit, virus, trojan, Avira will kill it. Avira is the second best anti-virus software
on the planet.

Tap f8 when you lap starts to bring up the boot menu, and pray
that the flash drive is listed.

One of my clients' old Maxtor drives finally went South on her this weekend, just as I was in the middle of migrating her data over to her brand new computer. The drive just suddenly died- whir!, click!, spin down, vanished, kaput. I couldn't get it to spin up again on a few subsequent power-cyclings of the machine, and not wanting to damage either of her computers, I took it back to my shop to try to revive it. I put it in three different computers (running Windows and Linux), but it refused to engage in any of them at all; all I got from the drive were a few sick-sounding whines, and one of the controller chips began to get really hot.

I was just about to call her and give her the bad news when I remembered a really off-the-wall fix that I read about ages ago: wrap the drive in an anti-static bag, wrap that in couple of zip-lock baggies, and stick the beast in the freezer overnight. I Googled around a bit and found that this was considered to be a huge "Urban Legend" by many folks, but others said that the fix had indeed worked for them.

WTF I thought- the drive can't be much more dead than it is now, right? Soooo... into the freezer she went (the drive, that is, not the client). Well, this morning I pulled the drive out of the fridge and stuck it back into one of my test boxes, and the damn thing spun right up, and stayed alive long enough to let me pull all of the data off to another drive!

As weird as it sounded at first- it worked, so I just thought I'd pass my experience on in case it can pull anyone else out of a similar jam

Operation system not found

I had to use the recovery console on the xp disk to run "fixmbr" to fix my corrupted master boot record. the mbr is the file that tells the computer where the rest of the instructions are. without the mbr, it doesn't know where to go for the next instruction, which would be from your operating system.

there is another option which fixes faulty bootup instructions.

hope that helps.
