Changing thermal fuse and lamp

Hi,

We're fairly mechanical. Is changing the thermal fuse and the lamp something we could do?

Thanks!

Since posting my question, I did some more googling and learned that our problem may be the lamp bulb (it was the original) and the lamp board. We've ordered replacements and are keeping our fingers crossed that they will bring our big behemoth tv back to life.

I would not recomend you changing the fuse even though it sounds simple. the new one is modified and has to be rerouted, for saftey factors if not installed properly the tv could get hot and melt things or worse. the lamp is designed for customers to change so go ahead if you need to chang the lamp only.

Please count the amount of blinks before it pauses. The number of blinks will say if the door isnt latched all of the way or if the thermal fuse has popped above the lamp area. Hope its a 6 blink as that is the thermal fuse which is easy to bypass or replace.

Sony kf-ws60s1 front red light flashes 6 times after lamp replacement. Need thermal fuse part number

hello!
your issue has nothing to do with "thermal switch". while you have replaced the lamp, you could lose a piece of plastic hardware, in front of the lamp housing. It pushes auxiliary interlock switch, right under the front of the lamp compartment. If you take lamp out, use flashlight and shine inside. There is a little switch at the bottom. Try to make the lamp housing push it, without breaking anything. you could get "generic" lamp with housing, which is not correct. Anyway, that's the deal. Also: don't forget to install lamp door and turn the handle clockwise! there is another switch. I've seen people who forget to put that door back! Really!
good luck,
Alex.

I changed the lamp but the lamp light keeps blinking and the tv won't turn on.

Hi,

3 blinks is the lamp door error code. Try jumpering the door switch. These switches are notorious for going bad.

OR

The blink code means that something on the board is over current/over voltage. It could be an overload of the +5 line (A/B boards) or the +5 line is shorted.

The TV needs to be opened up and the boards checked. You may be lucky and only need a thermal fuse. Also check your bulb.

I hope this helps.

My Sony KDF55WF655 Grand Wega will not turn on. No power at all, and there are no LED's of any color. It's as if it wasn't plugged in. This happened after a local power outage. The Sony wasn't turned on...

Even with the set turned off, there is always a circuit that is active. There is what is called a "standby transformer" that supplies power for this. It is quite possible that the internal fuse of this transformer has opened up. This is a common failure. There should also be an external fuse that may be open as well. Check for any "glass tube" type of fuse close to where the AC cord attaches to the set (inside and with the set unplugged). Try changing that fuse first. If that does not resolve the problem, the standby transformer is the next likely suspect.

SOUND AND PIC GOES OUT FOR 30 SECONDS, THEN PIC COMES BACK THEN SOUND. IS THIS THE LAMP OR THERMAL FUSE OR WHAT.

The lamp is going bad. If it was the thermal fuse it would not be intermittent. It is very common for some Sony sets like yours to do exactly what you describe when the lamp is going bad.

You have an open thermal fuse in the lamp housing. The fuse has an upgrade and is only accessible from the back of the TV>

Sony wega problem look like im not the only one!

This sounds like your lamp failed and opened you thermal fuse. 6 blinks is open thermal fuse and that would normally only open if your lamp failed. Replacing the lamp is simple, but the thermal fuse is a very difficult repair with considerable disassembly.

Green Light blinks, no picture, bulb new

Found that the thermistor/temp measuring device is suspect, no resistance across legs. There is a label there that says F701 see service manual
http://www.goodmans.net/get_item_th-tf117c_thermal-fuse-117-degrees-celsius.htm
I went here for a tech manual for the Panasonic tv1.gif.
http://www.ManualsParadise.com
then ordered
Manufacturer: Panasonic
Part Description: FUSE
Part Number: LSJA0411-1
from PartStore.com
it was mounted to the case that holds the lamp. had to remove the back panel, etc. Also think I had to splice in the fuse or something. was a while ago.

i purchased a NTE8115 from my electronics supplier, closest I could find. Radio shack1.gif also has them.

remove the back cover and measure for continuity across the thermal fuse
above the lamp housing.
if open jump it wth a 5 amp fuse, be sure to close the safety switch with
the small blue lever then try to power on.
If comes on ok you will need to replace the entire ballast assembly to get
that fuse.
Panasonic does not have a part number for just the fuse on the PT40LC
series.
It is possible to cut off the fuse and replace with another but dont solder
must be crimped.
