No there is no way to check the lamp. You can check ballast voltages but thats dangerous. The main thing is to make sure the replacement lamp is the same number as your old one.

Sorry friend, but the only sure thing is that you're getting a lamp driver error. Odds are you're either having an issue with the ballast or your power supply can't supply the voltage needed. If you're good with electronics you can check the voltages on the power supply and try to rule that out. Otherwise you should take the set in for repair. Good luck.

I HAD THE PROBLEM OF BULB NOT TURNING ON. SOME PEOPLE SUGGESTED TO GET THE BULB CHECKED WHICH WAS ALRIGHT, SOME SUGGESTED TO CHANGE THE BALLAST WHICH WAS SMART BUT THERE WAS NO WAY TO CHECK IT OTHER THAN PUTTING A NEW ONE AND TESTING IT. I CALLED THE TECHNICIAN AND HE CHANGED IT BUT STILL NO PICTURE AND SAME CODE OF BULB NOT WORKING. THEN HE CHECKED FUSE ON POWER SUPPLY RIGHT NEXT TO WIRES BRINGING POWER SUPPLY TO BALLAST BUT IT SEEMED OK. HE DECIDED TO CHANGE IT TO SEE IF THIS FIXES THE PROBLEM AND WE CHANGED IT. WE TURNED ON THE TV AND WALLAH. SUGGESTION IS TO CHECK EVERYTHING BEFORE SPENDING MONEY ON NEW BALLAST OR BULB. 2 CENTS OF ADVICE, IT IS SOMETIMES WORTH TO BRING SOMEBODY WHO KNOWS WHAT HE/SHE IS DOING.

Replacing ballast

To confirm if the ballast is bad check the ballast board to see if the spark gap (on the ballast board) lights when you first turn the set on. If it does than the ballast is ok.

Samsung 61 after 20 mins turns off not a cooling problem checked

It could be a issue with the ballast try to check if you have a buzzing sound. if it does is most likely a issue with the ballast (only if sound cames near the lamp) you can check that just follow the cables that are connected to the lamp, take out the back cover of tv, and keep pushing the switch cover (if not tv will not turn ON). and check if that sound comes from the only board connected to lamp. if it does, you are going to need a ballast.

My rear projection tv stopped working the lamp has not blowen but the lamp is showing its open circuit with a multimeter. Should it be open circuit? the model of the lamp is 120w BP96-00271C

yes it is high resistance could be your balast... do you hear the arc in the spark gap on the ballast?
if not you may have no power to the ballast as in an open fuse or the ballast is defective or your bulb is defective ..they may not look blown.

On top of the bulb housing is a small yellowish thermal fuse.

I took mine completey out, jumped the black wire together, and bingo.set works perfectly.
