Question about Brother HL 5250DN Laser Printer

1 Answer

OFFLINE My brother 5250 goes offline and will not come back on. I have to delete the printer and re-install. This printer is plugged into a linksys router and I am using windows vista on one computer, and windows xp home on other computers. Is there a driver or update that corrects this problem?

Sometimes it will go offline on the XP computers as well. However, I have done a lot of research and I am refining my network settings so things are getting better. I already had the drivers your link was to....however, it is VERY hard to follow through on exactly what I was supposed to do go get those drivers loaded. I think it would be best to assign a static IP address to the printer. Do you know where I can find specific instructions on how to assign the Brother HL5250 a static address?

    Go to control panel.

    Select printers.

Find your printer on the mouse and select properties by pressing the right mouse button.

    Click on ports.

    Select add port.

Select standard TCP/IP port. If Brother created special software for IP ports for your printer then select that.

If you know your router settings and you have an address in mind, you press New port and run the wizzard. Type in the IP address the you want your printer to be. Press next. Once the port is created. Check it off and select apply. Make sure that IP address is setup on your printer as well. Most printers will set one up automatically for you if the printer is connected to the network and IP addressing is turned on.

I have a Brother MFC 6490CW printer. I have been using it wireless for the past 6 months. When i had a problem with the auto tray select, i reloaded the printer and it constantly goes back to OFFLINE. ...

If you are setting up a wireless printer in Windows 7 then there may be different issues that can appear while installation. If the status of your printer is offline then you have to reinstall the drivers of printer on Windows 7-based system.

I cant print any documents my brother MFC-255CW says offline and i cant get it to work

I had the same problem, and couldn't find a solution anywhere. My laptop said the wifi Brother MFC-255CW printer was offline, when the printer was definitely online and connected.
In the end I simply went into Control Panel / Printers, selected the Brother printer, and deleted it off the network. Then I chose "Add a Printer" from the network, and reselected the only printer on my home network - which was the Brother MFC-255CW that I had just deleted. The computer reinstalled the driver, and everything was fine again - haven't had a problem since.

Printer shows offline when not set offline in software. Re-installed driver, no difference. Running Vista 32

Try uninstalling ALL the software that came with the printer AND the driver in device manager. Reboot. Reinstall software before plugging in the printer unless told to do so by the software.

How to switch from "offline" status to "online" status

I had the same problem with a Brother MFC-6490CW AIO printer. Here is how I resolved it:

Open the printers folder.
Right-click on the Brother printer and display the Properties page
Select the Ports tab.

In my system (Vista Premium), the selected port was a WSD port (whatever that means). Further down the list, there was a TCP/IP port that was obviously created by the Brother installation software. I selected the Brother-created TCP/IP port (which deselected the WSD port), applied the changes, and suddenly my printer was online. No idea what the difference between these two ports is, but I'll stick with the TCP/IP port until further notice.
