Problems with Howard Miller dual chime dual west and Beeth movement clock

Good day : Couldn;t beieve it when I found this site. I have been having porblems with the above clock for quite a while and now am very anxious to hopefully have a solution ..
It is with the chiming of the clock on the hour. The 1/4 and 1/2 hour chiming is fine but I am not abke to get the clock to chime the correct number of times. Sometimes it chimes the correct number but most of teh time it doesn;t.
This is such a nice clock, I paid over $500 for it so I really hope someone can help ..
Many thanks

My problem is the same as noofs,s on this Howard Miller Dula Chime clock. Keeps miscounting the hours in a sort of random pattern. I took mine to a guy who said he could fix it. He had it for two or three months and called to say the fix was easy and problem is now solved. I've had iat home and hanging two days and it is now miscounting again. So what is next?

If you manually set the time, the chimes will be off unless you wait for the chiming to finish before continuing to turn the hands.

Press the TEST button to get the correct number of chimes in synch with the actual time.

To fix the 'not chiming on the hour' problem is a bit tougher. To get time and chime right will take a combination of setting time with batteries out (to move chime) and batteries in (to set time). I'd try this - just before or after clock chimes, take out batteries and set clock to the hour. Then, put batteries in and adjust chimes (use reset as described above to set number of chimes if needed). Good luck!

Above should say 'Then, put batteries in to adjust time'.

My Howard Miller Grandfather floor clock 610-808 chimes constantly

Hello Shirley Haas,

Leave the weight fully extended (stop the clock)
and start checking your local area for clock-smith
that make house calls (run on hour strikes are much more common... but whatever you say... "CHIMES" the cause
is likely the same: Little or no maintenance).

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Howard-Miller-Grandfather-Clock-Movement-with-Dial-Model-610-309-serviced-/282379781809?hash=item41bf2586b1:g:UO4AAOSwMmBVjdo-

These clocks need to be lubed and serviced and it is work
best left to the serious professionals.

You can probably get away with another 35 years...

Remember we have time on our side...

As for me...
I bought a junk clock to EXAMINE & fix (did)
I purchased synthetic clock oil (LIBERTY noted below)
and lubed ALL the obvious spots...
wiping excess away with Q-Tips.

Then I assaulted my own RIDGEWAY...
Got it running & regulated (was NOT my problem)...
My pendulum only needed to be centered correctly
(oh well).

I could NOT pull up YOUR 610-808 movement... but on the movements I have done you can see the hour strikes & the lever that triggers that motion (HOURS are each a spike on
the gear wheel... from one (^), 2 (^^) to 12 (^^^^^^^^^^^^)
progressively (pretty obvious if you are looking).

Go there... look... lube..!! Be gentle... VERY GENTLE...
or better ... call in a QUALIFIED SERVICE PERSON.

Clock is in sync but hour chime only goes to 5 ?

You'd have to take the dial off so you can see what's going on in there. Your movement, (probably a Kieninger) has what's called a rack and snail that determines how many times the clock strikes.
It sounds like either the racks being prevented from falling further than the five position. It may just need to be cleaned, and oiled (with clock oil), or something may be damaged.
It would probably be less hassle if you called a clock shop to service it for you. If It were in front of me I could tell you more.
Good Luck

My clock chimes the correct amount of chimes on all hours except 7. At 7 it chimes 5 times

In a quartz movement clock, with a problem like this, the chime box (or whole movement) will need to be replaced. Timesavers.con carries a large selection of chiming quarts movements.

Howard Miller Christopher Quartz mantel clock chime adjustment

Try pulling the batteries out, set the clock to 5:45 then put the batteries back in. Set the time to 6:00 and count how many times it strikes. If it strikes 6 then your good. If it strikes a different number say 5, take the batteries back out, and set the clock to 4:45 then put the batteries back it, set clock to 5 and count the strike. Most quartz clocks reset their chimes to 5:00 when new batteries are installed regardless of the time shown on the face. I hope this helps. Good Luck.

I need a Howard Miller battery mantle clock

Try www.klockit.com. You can replace the entire movement for about $5 including new hands. You can select from an assortment of hands that will probably match the style of what you have and use those if the old hands don't fit the new movement. I've bought several movements from them over the years. For a few more dollars you can upgrade to an "atomic clock" movement which synchronizes with the US time signal and even sets DST automatically.
