Question about Televison & Video

6 Answers

I have purchased a new 19 inch hd/digital/freeview/dvd tv. When I am trying to listen to the tv there is a hiss that continues while anyone is talking. I changed the tv thinking the original one was faulty but this one is doing the same thing. This did not happen on my old portable so I don't think it is an aerial problem and i have tried adjusting the treble etc. Can you offer any advice? Kind Regards Jill

    Hi

Would this not have happened on my old tv if it is a signal problem? I am getting the freeview without problems and I have been told if my signal was poor I wouldn't be able to access this?

    Thanks

    Hi

Digital TV is connected to aerial socket by male/female aerial cable. Cable and socket are good. Have used my old tv on it for last year and have tried another tv. Neither of which have the same problem.

    Thanks

    Hi

Looks like I'll have to take the TV back and try a different manufacturer.

    Thanks

There are two things to look at very closely. First, we know that only one component seems to be causing the hissing. You are sure that the input cable is okay so let's look at something else. The other thing impacted by sound is output. Are you using the television speakers for both the DVD and teh DTV or are you using two types of speakers for the DVD and DTV.
Another issue can be electricity or interference. DVDs are less suseptible to outside interference. Try changing the location of the DTV unit attached to your tv. if the sound changes then you know there is interference from another electronic gadget in the house. Also, check which outlets the different devices are plugged into. switch them around to make sure it is not a bad wall socket. I hope this helps. It sound pretty frustrating consider all of the work you already put into this.

Interference occurs when undesired radio signals or electromagnetic "noise" sources are picked up by consumer electronics products -most often telephones, audio equipment, VCRs or TVs. It usually results in noise, unwanted voices or distorted TV pictures.

In most cases, the source is nearby.

What connection are you using to connect your DTV to your television? You may want to make sure the cable is good, or upgrade the cable.
Keep me posted.
Thanks,
Lee

If you can only hear the distortion with that input on that tv. Then it has to be that input on that tv.
    Thanks,

Veon tv manual

The eject button on the remote appears as an upward-pointing arrow with an underline - see below image. The eject button on the TV has a similar symbol.

However, I suspect that in your case, you might not be having a Remote.

This link says that your TV doesn't come with a Remote and DVD cannot be ejected without the remote :

Is the integral Freeview on my 32 inch Full HD TV HD or Not

Simple answer. No. But please read on . . .

Full HD Freeview, i.e 1080p does not exist. The four HD channels currently available on Freeview all transmit at 720p resolution. There is insufficient bandwidth in the TV transmission range for the HD channels to transmit at 1080p. It could be done, but it would be at the expense of other channels.

Your TV, however, is Full HD, as indicated by the 1080p in the specifications. This means it can display a full HD picture from a device which outputs at 1080p resolution. Devices which generally output at 1080p resolution include Blu-ray DVD players, games systems and PCs.

When viewing a Freeview HD channel, your TV will display the picture in 1080i (interlace) resolution. This is not true/full HD. The transmitted picture comprises of 720 horizontal lines and the software inside the TV is creating the additional 360 lines and interlacing them between the 720 lines from the original transmission in order to create a 1080 line picture which fills the entire screen. This process is commonly known as 'upscaling' and can cause deterioration in the overall picture quality, most noticably on poor quality, cheap TVs.

Hope that explains it for you sufficiently!

try another source i.e. dvd player/pc/game console to see if the problem goes away.

if still the same, then it could be settings in the tv (but only accessible to technicians) call them for help.

if different, return/get new freeview box.
