Wow, I searched all over the web to find nothing on this. My suggestion is, if the memory isn't under an access panel on the bottom of the machine, try looking under the keyboard.

Go to www.crucial.com and on the left side is a button that says scan my system. Install the activex control to scan your system and it will tell you exactly what you currently have and what you need to purchase to achieve your desired results.

5 beeps

Hi this sounds like a memory/ram issue you need to power of your machine, remove the power cable & then without the power cable connected, press & hold the power button for 15 seconds until it makes a chime noise, that is a basic power function reset, if that does not solve it, remove the memory cover panel on the under side of your laptop then carefully remove the memory chips blow or vacuum the area & use a dry piece of tissue to very gently clean your memory of any dust, replace the ram chips & re-connect power cord, this should solve it, but if not try starting up again without the power cord, if it's successful without the power cord you'll need a new 1, if not it suggests your ram chips have gone bad & you may need to purchase new ram chips, good luck :-) you can find more info about the 5 beeps here: Computer Does Not Start and Emits an LED or Beep Code

if you need to purchase new memory/ram chips you can get cheap ram here: Cheap Laptop Memory RAM Upgrade Low Prices UK Deals Ebuyer com

If you do need to buy new ram chips, I'd advise buying 2x 4GB modules :-)

Laptop memory upgrade

Your Laptop is using DDR2 Memory, just find your nearest retailer that sells memory and go buy you a chip, ur laptop ships with 1024mb of ram as standard, if you want to get a decent boost pretty cheap then i would just buy another 1gig chip and put it in beside the one already there.

Not sure what your system maxes out at but the average is 4gig of ram so you could try a couple of 2 gig chips if you feel you need that much ram

IBM thinkpad g40..i want to upgrade

To upgrade your CD drive there is a screw on the bottom of the machine that holds it in place. Remove this screw and the drive will slide out. I buy most drives for my customers and shop from Ebay. I've found that there are some very good vendors with good prices and warranties there. Now for the memory. The memory you need for your machine is PC2100, and 1g is the max. I mainly use Kingston or Infiniton. Both of these are good chips, and there are other good chips out there. I suggest that you use two 512mb chips that are the same make. I've found that sometimes two different chips will create a conflict with each other. The memory is located under a panel on the bottom of the machine. For memory I use pricewatch.com If you have any other questions please fell free to ask.

Am trying to find some info for you on this
What is the part number that your current charger has on it, just to make sure that I'm looking for the correct part? Or, are you saying that you don't have any charger.

Balance CN1401 tv tuner software

Hmmm... interesting finds for this model. Apparently built buy ECS for Walmart distribution under the name of Balance.

There is no Balance website and no information from ECS. But from what I have gathered this evening, from searching online, it should be the same as the ECS line of laptops from the same time period.

Go here - http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/SearchResult.aspx?q=tuner&f=Downloads&MenuID=104&LanID=0

Scroll down to model 332 and try the TV driver listed on the bottom of the page. Most of these models from ECS share the same LifeView TV Tuner driver.

I couldn't find any relevant specific information for Balance CN1401. Other than it being an ECS built laptop for Walmart Balance branding. So theoretically, and ECS driver should work. If that one from the 332 doesnt work, then check some of the other models listed.

Is this going to be for Windows or a Linux based operating system?
