Question about Car Audio & Video
I have a Clarion DXZ545MP car receiver. Recently it does not eject CDs. It makes a repeated clicking sound as if the mechanism can't move & then gives up. I opened it up (past the point of no return even though I don't know what the hell I'm doing; I usually could just disassemble electronics & put 'em back together and they magically start working again). The mechanism will eject the CD if I press upwards on that whole gear array. I'm guessing the sound is the gears slipping or something. Does anyone have any info on how to troubleshoot car CD players? Or what my problem could be? I've heard of the term "limit switch" mentioned through searches on here, but cant' seem to find it on my receiver. How do I clean my car cd player when it dosnt take in a cd?
The problem you are having is most likely a gear that is out of position or is stripped with a broken tooth.
I have been repairing car audio for over 17 years and I can tell you with all honesty this is not an easy fix. You will need to take the mech apart and if it does not go back together perfectly, it will not work.
Sometimes the limit switch or home switch can cause the laser pick up to continually try to move inwards toward the spindle motor, which is the home position for it. When the CD is ejected the pick up goes back to the home position and if the home switch is not engaging properly the sled motor will keep running to try and make the pick-up go all the way in, even if it is already in. The home switch can be found near the spindle motor and you can tell that it is the home switch because if the pick up goes all the way back in, the switch gets depressed, look for the switch that gets depressed when the pick up is in the home position.
I really do not think that you should try this repair yourself since you have not had any experience with them. you may cause even more damage to the cd mech which would make a repair even more expensive.
There is no way for me to tell in this forum, exactly what is wrong with your cd player. I can only take educated guesses, so any help to repair such a detailed and technical mechanical or electrical problem is just a shot in the dark since this particular problem could have a few different things causing it.
Do yourself a favor and take it to a professional that works at an authorized Clarion service center. If the problem is a gear that is out of place, like I have seen before with these, a good technician can fix it in about an hour.
Trying to fix this yourself most likely will result in a radio that has no CD player.
It has been a while since I seen one of these problems with a Clarion, so I would need to actually see the mech in front of me and manually move the gears to see how they are operating before I could say with certainty what the exact problem is.
If you do decide to fix it your self, keep in mind that you may need to order a part for it. make sure you can find a place that will order the part for you before you begin.
I will give you more help if you need it, I can even email you the service manual, but as i said before, this will not be an easy one for you and it is very likely that even if you find the problem, you may end up putting the mech back together and it wont work. They really are difficult to work on.

I've had two of theses radios and both did this, the bad thing is, I have Sirius Radio until December. Until then, I will have to do without playing CD until then. And then yank the radio out of my truck and not ever purchase another Clarion product again.
