The machine needs to be primes.
Please trie and release hot water though the steam nossle.
Do like this
Open the steamer and then trie and make a cup of coffe. this will make the hot water come out thought the steamer instead of the coffe outlet.
Why you should do this is becuse the machine has it alot more easier to prime it self though the steamer then the coffe outlet.

I bought a brand new Gran Crema and every time I would turn on the machine, steam would come out of the wand. Never would water come out of the coffee filter. I called Saeco to find I did not purchase it from "an authorized Internet retailer", so they pretty much told me to take off.

I decided to take it apart and investigate. It turns out the dial on the right side of the machine (which is used to turn on and off the milk wand) has a little piece of plastic on the inside which prevents the dial from being turned more than 9/10th of the way around in either direction. What had happened during the construction, was that it was not tightened all the way off, and the little tab would prevent further tightening. So rather than having water through the filter, it would escape first as steam in the wand.

The Fix:
There were a couple of screws (I think just two) to remove the plastic housing. I was then able to take off the right plastic dial, turn it every so slightly to the right and reattach. Now I could turn it 9/10th of a turn to the right (tightening), and repeat. After two turns the valve was fully tightended. I then reattached the dial so that there was no more give to turn it right, but where I would be allowed a full 9/10th turn to the left to open the valve. I then reattached the top plastic housing, and inserted the two screws.

It has been a perfect espresso machine the past two years. How did that get by quality control?
