Hi soren,
Open up your pc, and remove the cables connected to your cdrom, power on your pc, then shut it down again, connect back all the cables into your cdrom and see if it works.

if you have an extra cdrom, try it out, you might have a faulty cdrom there, or maybe somethings wrong with your IDE cable(if your using that) or your sata cable.

Where do I insert CD?

Good question. The images on the website are not good enough to determine where to put in a CD/DVD. The specifications from the site state that there is a DVD/CD drive, which is good because many new desktops don't come with a DVD/CD drive.

My recommendation is to right-click on the Windows Start button and open Windows Explorer. In Windows Explorer, click on the computer. You should now see your DVD/CD drive under the line Devices with Removable Storage. Right-click on the DVD RW drive and select "Eject" and the drive should open.

Good luck,

Paul

L did,t get a work manual with my computer and l don't know how to insert a cisk

Which operating system ?

If its a cd or dvd disc you are referring to there is a horizontal slot on the front panel of desktop computers just insert the disc into the slot once it gets half or three quarters of the way in the computer should find it and drag it into the computer .

Then access this disc in windows explorer.

Click start all programs accessories open windows explorer my computer you should see your drives C: usually your hard drive D: your cd dvd drive and your usb drive E: or F: click to open it
Windows Explorer is an application that enables you to locate system files, folders and components on your computer. It enables you to make adjustments on components installed or running on your computer. It provides detailed information about your files and folders and enables you to organize them by renaming, copying, or moving them. You can launch Windows Explorer in several simple ways.

Right-click the Windows "Start" menu and click "Explore" to launch Windows Explorer. You should see the system folders in the left panel. Click the folder that you want to launch. You should see the contents of that folder on the right panel. Alternatively, launch Windows Explorer by double-clicking "My Computer" (Windows XP) or "Computer" (Windows Vista and 7) on the desktop. Click the "Folders" button on the top. You should see the system folders in the left panel. Click the folder that you want to launch. You should see the contents of that folder on the right panel. Alternatively, click the Windows "Start" menu and click "Programs" or "All Programs." Scroll up and select "Accessories." Click "Windows Explorer" to launch Windows Explorer.

My cd-rom location do not show up on my Dell Dimension 8250 computer devices. Why

Click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question /exclamation mark ? ! or a red X right click to update driver

You might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd restart your computer then plug them back this should activate the found new hardware wizard

If this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem
"you only need to do the following"
if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer

Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

SYSTEM

CurrentControlSet

Control

Class

{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Upper Filters

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer

Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

Hope this helps.

No, the southbridge simply is no longer working properly - the PATA controller to which the optical drives are connected has failed. The motherboard is dead, you must replace it.

My computer no longer "sees"

hello
at end of this instruction set, see link to review more questions/answers,as your issue with CD/DVD ROM will vary .

This document applies to HP and Compaq desktop computers with Windows XP, Me, and 98. Use this document to make Windows and the CD writing software recognize the CD or DVD writer drive. Start at Step 1; do not skip to other sections until Step 1 has been completed. Step 1: Does Windows detect the CD or DVD drive? Use Device Manager to determine if Windows is recognizing the drive:
  1. In Windows XP, click Start , and right-click My Computer . In Windows 98 and Me, right-click the My Computer icon on the desktop.
  2. In Windows XP, select Properties , click the Hardware tab, and then click the Device Manager button. In Windows 98 and Me, select Properties , and click the Device Manager tab.
  3. Click the plus sign (+ ) next to DVD/CD-ROM Drives (or similar) category.
  4. Do the following depending on what is listed in the DVD/CD-ROM drives category:
    • If the CD or DVD drive name is missing , the drive is not being detected by Windows. Close Device Manager and skip to the section CD or DVD drive is not recognized by Windows .
    • If a drive name is shown but is disabled (icon is marked with a red X, c00877300.gif ), the drive has been disabled. Right-click the drive name and select Enable . You may have to restart the computer to complete the enabling process. The drive should work correctly once it has been enabled. NOTE: If the drive cannot be enabled, a required service or driver that the drive needs is not functioning or has been disabled. Click the plus sign next to IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers and troubleshoot any problems found according to any error codes in Device Manager. Resetting the BIOS may also resolve this problem.
    • If a drive name is shown but contains an alert icon (an icon marked with an alert symbol, c00877301.gif ), then use the section Using Device Manager error codes to troubleshoot the problem. You may also use the next section Disc burning software does not recognize the original drive to reset the drive configuration.
    • If the CD or DVD drive is listed as normal but your disc burning software does not recognize the drive, Device Manager shows no special icons c00877302.gif . Windows is detecting the drive but the writing software does not. Leave Device Manager open and continue with the next section Disc burning software does not recognize the original drive .

Non functioning CD/DVD drive on Shuttle SN41G2 PC

Does Windows still detect the drive? If you were to go into My Computer or Computer (depending on the version of Windows) are you able to see the drive?
Place a DVD or CD (Software or Multimedia) that you have tested on a different system and then use Windows Explorer to browse the drive.
To launch Explorer right click on My Computer (Vista/Win 7: Computer) and then select explorer. Select the DVD drive and see if you are able to view the contents.
If Windows still detects the drive and you are unable to view the contents of a tested DVD or CD then it would most likely be the drive.
