I had the same problem. The light of the charger was only flickering and the laptop would not work: conclusion either the motherboard supply is dead or there is a faulty component on the supply card. In any case a costly repair ....
THIS IS A GENERIC FAULT OF THIS COMPUTER. ADVENT SHOULD BE AWARE OF THIS!!!

When you have the AC adapter plugged in and try to power up the computer, do any lights or fans come on to indicate that there is actually power to the system? If not, you have a bad AC adapter and should get a new one.

If you DO see lights and have fans running (or hear other sounds) to indicate that power is being supplied to the system, but do not have anything displayed on the screen the problem could be:

    1. The LCD unit has gone bad and will need to be replaced
    2. The graphics display chip on the motherboard has gone bad and the motherboard will need to be replaced
    3. You have accidentally toggled into external monitor mode. Check your toggle/function key combinations to test.

No screen

MOST likely the monitor is bad if you don't hear any beeps when booting up.

If you unplug the monitor the screen should say NO SIGNAL

Bad video board? Trying to figure out is card is bad or if it's drivers.

I agree, it does sound like it is on its last leg. Keep the settings on low and run it til it dies!

Advent 7110 shuts down. P.C. World have had it back several times. No improvement. Seems that fan is not in right place i.e. under lap top. Could it be an overheating problem in which case there should...

I bought my 5535 yesterday and had exactly the same problems with it. going to take it back today and buy something else, it's cutting off every 15 minutes. very irritating. i thought it was overheating on my lap so i used it on the table just to get the same results. This is not a common issue for acer and these should all be recalled

Samsung SyncMaster 204bw....keeps going black every now and then with the power light flashing, i don't understand what is wrong with it :S please help?? i have to restart my system everytime...

Similar problem with Samsung Syncmaster T260 at 1920x1200 on HIS Radeon X1950XTX video card. Black horizontal stripes lasting 1/60th of a second or so every few seconds, then black screen for 2 seconds, then fine again.

I Set the catalyst control center control panel for the graphics card to Alternate DVI operational mode under the Digital panel attributes item. Setting the screen to 1600x1200 also seems to stop it doing this. BUT...it didn't used to do it. Bought it in November, and it didn't start doing this until late January. Go figure.
