Question about Nikon D40x Digital Camera

1 Answer

I have a nikon AF nikkor lens 75-300mm.

I would like to know what base camera it will work with. Most fit but the auto focus is incorrect, and the guide pins are different. Can you help? Cheers Gerry, Cumbria

It should work on the D50, D70, D70s, D80 etc. ( the exceptions are the D40, D40X & D60, no autofocus)

I have a Nikon D3100 and want to buy a zoom lens 70-300.Please help I am confused is a Nikon AF Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6G compatible? And is it automatic focus?

That lens will work with the D3100, except for the autofocusing. In order to autofocus with the D3100, you need AF-S lenses, such as the AF-S VR Zoom-NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED or the
AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR.

My 18-55mm lens won't auto focus...it works in manual my 55-200mm works fine on my D3000

-You must use a lens with internal auto-focus motor such as AF-S Nikkor, or 3rd party with built-in motor
-Is the switch`s been moved to A/M??
-The battery must have enough power to run the auto-focus motor inside the lens

My D80 will not auto focus with any of my 3 Nikkor lenses. It will fire on auto focus when you manually focus while in that auto focus mode.

Press the AF button on the top of the camera (to the right of the window) to select an AF mode & make sure the M/A (Manual / Auto focus) switch on the lens set to "A"

My Nikon D60 wont auto focus on any of my lenses. Could it be a problem with the body?

The d60 needs Auto focus lenses(Ones with motors inside the lense) it doesn`t autofocus on other lenses. this was done to reduce the price of the camera body

Hope this helps

Nikon D300 When I depress the shutter half way or fully on my D300 the frame counter reads r27 and the lens (any previously compatible Nikkor lens) will not auto focus. The camera is not set in burst mode...

Only reason the lens will not auto focus when you depress the shutter half way is due to either lens AF switch is set to Manual OR camera body's focus system is on M. There is 3 way toggle switch below the synch port around the lens mount. It should be set to C or S in order for auto focus to work. If all the settings are correct and even "AF-ON", next to rear dial doesn't activate auto focus then the issue maybe in the setting or the body itself. As for the buffer reading r27, I think mine displays r## regardless of burst/continuous mode.

with your D40, you can old go on manual focus on the 70-300mm AF-G/D nikkor.

Nikon D40X stopped auto-focusing yesterday

I had the same problem. My issue was with all my lenses. I solved it by going to the menu and selecting the custom setting menu (pencil icon). Then from the right menu select the AE-L/AF-L and press OK. Then make sure it is set on AE/AF Lock. Presto...all my lenses worked on auto-focus.
