I work at an authorized Panasonic repair center and I think the error code you have may be an "F61" not an "F71".

I have never seen an "F71" so I looked it up in several Panasonic service manuals and could not find an "F71".

The "F61" error is an amp or power supply failure. If this is the error code you are getting, try these two things first.

1. Disconnect the speakers and then turn it on.
If the unit turns on without an error code, you have a bad speaker.
If not, try step 2.

2. Resetting the unit could help, but it is unlikely. Unplug it from the wall outlet for about an hour and then plug it back in. This will reset the microprocessor.

The "F61" error It is a common problem with many different Panasonic receivers.

Your best bet is to take it to an authorized Panasonic service center.

The repair on this type of failure can cost anywhere from $75 all the way up to and over $200, it just depends on the exact problem that is causing it.
If you have a shorted output amp IC it can be on the costly side because some of Panasonics amp IC's cost over $100 just for the part.

If you are a technician and need help troubleshooting it, please give me the model number of the unit and I can tell you of several different things to check.

If you are not a technician with good soldering skills and the proper equipment, there is really nothing else you can do to fix this unit.

You must decide if the cost to repair it is worth it, compared to the cost of a new unit.

If you decide to purchase another unit to replace this one, let me know what type of unit you are looking for and I can advice you on picking out something a little more reliable.

Panasonic makes great car stereos, some of the best. But the home stereo equipment they make is really not up to the same standard. I have been repairing them for over 17 years and I know them very well. For the same price range you can do much better with another brand.

I hope this helps you to either fix this, or to make a better informed decision o what to replace it with. If so, a good rating would really be appreciated.

Thanks, and have a great day,
Dave

Dave, I read your reply from several years ago, and was wondering if you're still active on the site and that if you might offer suggestions for replacing my Panasonic SA-PT950; you mentioned Panasonic isn't the most reliable brand. Suggestions?

No sound from Surround Back Right (SBR).

Bad wire, bad speaker or bad channel. Disconnect the wire from the amp. Using a 1.5v battery touch the wires to the battery briefly. You should get a pop from the speaker. If not get a different piece of wire and use it instead of the regular wire. If still no pop then the speaker is bad.

You can find 71 matches for that model number in this directory. The "xx" is up to you.

It takes a while to load the drectory. Be patient.

Once you choose a model look for something looking like ...

for the English manual.

Want to record out of an input device off my VSX1019AH 71 Channels Receiver

You can only make a digital recording from a digital source, and an analog recording from an analog source.

It's all explained in the manual on page 70

http://www.retrevo.com/support/Pioneer-VSX-1019AH-Receivers-manual/id/23353bh430/t/2/

If I knew more about the unnamed "input device" I might be able to elaborate a it more. I'm sure its own manual might cover how to record from it.

At the bottom of the reciever, there is a button labeled STANDARD MODE. Press it and the reciever says PCM. Two buttons to the left is a button marked AUTO/ACL/DIRECT push that a few times and you'll have other options.

Error 71 an the reciever shuts down

You have a speaker short. Disconnect all speaker wires at the receiver, then turn it back on to test. If you don't get the error code, your receiver is still ok. Reconnect your speaker wires one by one and test the power on the receiver until you find the wire that's causing the problem. Then disconnect that wire at the speaker and test again, this will determine if you have a bad wire or a bad speaker. If the receiver still reads error without speakers attatched, you will need to send it for service. While it's at service, check all wires and speakers for shorts with a meter if you can. This is the most common failure of all receivers, a shorted wire. Hope this helps
