Question about Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-P73 Digital Camera

Sony DSC P73 camera intermittent power on problem

My sony DSC P73 camera is 3 years old. Of late, I am noticing that it does not power on in a consistent fashion. It sometimes turns on without any issues. Sometimes refuses to power on. It is very frustrating -- we are missing a lot of magical moments with our baby. We have ruled out a battery issue, because when it refuses to turn on, then switching to new batteries don't help. But once it turns on, it works fine...

Is Sony doing anything about it -- is there a recall on this product... will they fix it for free... they fixed my Handycam for free, because it was a known issue.

I have a Sony Cybershot DSC-P73 that I have had for many years now. I have never had any problems with the camera till now. It has never been dropped or anything, but the camera will not zoom in or out at...

It's possible with how old it is the zoom motor has worn out, I've seen that before with the older Sony digital cameras. It's possible for it to be repaired but it's more cost effective to get a new camera from my experience. Hope this helps.

Hi, The shutter on my sony dsc - p73 will not open all of a sudden is there any hope of being able to sort this?

I'm sorry that the shutter of the sony dsc - p73 will not open. I suggest that you perform a power reset and check the operation.

Performing a manual power reset
  1. Turn off the camera.
  2. Remove the battery pack.
  3. Remove the button-sized lithium battery.
  4. Allow the camera to remain without power for 30 seconds.
  5. Reinsert the button-sized lithium battery.
  6. Reinsert the battery pack.
  7. Turn on the camera
If the issue is not resolved, service will be requred.

Hey i have a sony DSC-P73 and water damage

Water damage is very bad for a digital camera. Even if you let it dry completely before turning it on, sometimes the debris in the water can fry the circuits.

Sony DSC-P73 auto power off in picture mode

Hello!

You may try using any another compatible Battery pack in the Camera to ensure if the issue is not causing due to the Battery. Actually, when the Camera is switched to the "Picture or Camera" mode then the power consumption increases spontaneously. So, if the Batter is not holding sufficient charge to cater the power need of the Camera in the Camera mode then it'll automatically turn off. However, if the issue persists with spare Battery also then you may try resetting the Camera to the original factory settings by pressing and holding the Reset button for 30 seconds. Otherwise, it's required to get the Camera to resolve the hardware issues.

Same as one that's been posted... When I change to picture mode on my Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-P73 it automatically powers off. By changing back to view mode it's possible to power on again. Not the batteries....

RESET your camera. Refer to your camera manual for reset instructions. It may require to push a reset button or check this link (copy and paste in your browser windows IE or Firefox):

Photos taken in the sun are all blurred & not clear , but inhouse photos are normal ( DSC-P73 4 years old)

the settings of the lens might be too sensitive for bright areas. You can try adjusting this on the settings.
