I have an Alcatel OT-800 and I was sending texts and my phone was doing fine until it wouldn't let me send messages. I turned my phone off and then turned it back on and it said 'SIM card is missing or unreadable'. I've had this problem before and I fixed it by restarting my phone, but this time it won't work.

Either your Cellular Data is turned off and you're trying to send an iMessage, or you don't have any service and your trying to sent a text message. If you're trying to send an iMessage, turn your Cellular Data on. If your trying to send a text message wait until you have better service to send the message.

hi clarissa1112 This is an older phone. That uses an keypad where you have to hit the button until it turns into the number. Now you may want to check your menu to see if you have an option to change to numbers. This can be a little time consuming while sending text messages. This is a phone that is based on the older system. It isn't a bad phone. Let me say that a lot of people have older base technology phones. So it doesn't do everything that some of the newer phones do. The carriers are going with the iphones, blackberries and the androids.Good fortune with your phone and hope this helps.
I am not familiar with Alcatel mobiles but I can help you find out the cause of the problem. This issue is another very common with many mobile users, and there are two main cause, 1. Message (sms) center and 2. Service(Network) Operator.
To fix the first one, you have to check the message center number, I hope you have another sim card with the same network. If you don't have, simply insert the sim card (your daughter's) on another mobile and try sending a message, how is it? If Yes, follow the next para, if No, then skip the next para..
After it's verified that there's no issue sending message from another handset with the same sim card, find out the message settings and locate the message center [should be inside the message > message settings > text message > message settings] and note down the message center number. After it's done, remove the sim card and insert it on the other (your daughter's) mobile, find and locate the message center number and compare with the one you've noted down (including the code before the 10 digit number) then replace with the one you've got from the other phone (exactly as it's shown on the other phone), save it and try sending text message again. It should work now.
If it's 'No' then call the customer care of the Network Operator and ask them to fix it. Must be from their side, simply the feature can be disabled or enabled by them. They'll let you know the current status of the sim card regarding text message.
Honestly I apologize that I can't give you the exact sequence to get into the message settings and to the message center, but I hope at least you'll be able to understand my instructions.
