Question about Sony XM-2200GTX Car Audio Amplifier

Installation question i have 2 10's 4-ohm speakers and i am planning on bridging them would that be good to do.

It depends on the amplifier your are going to run. if you bridge the tens together that will give you an 8ohm load. say the the amp is 2-4 ohms stable, then you would be fine

Do you bridge a 850.4 four channel amp when it is 2 ohm stable and ur subs are wired up as series/ parallel and there 2 ohm dual voice coil speakers


If you wire 2 ohm dvc speaker parallel that would give you a 1 ohm load. If your amp is only 2 ohm stable that would not work. You would have to wire the speaker in series giving you a 4 ohm load. Then you can bridge the 4 channels into 2 with each speaker running at 4 ohms.
If you want to run a 2 ohm load use all 4 channels on amp and speakers. No need to bridge.
For 2 ohm DVC:
Parallel = connect both + and - together. = 1 ohm
Series = connect + from 1 channel to - from the other channel. = 4 ohm.

per channel into four-Ohm-rated speaker
impedances. The "HZ" suffix is intended
to state the amplifier has a relatively high
impedance output and is optimized for no
lower than four-Ohm loads. Are you strapping in Bridged or Stereo Mode? Bridged Mono Operation
Both amplifier channels can be bridged together to make a very powerful single-channel monaural amplifier. Use
extreme caution when operating in the bridged mode; potentially lethal voltage may be present at the output
terminals. To bridge the amplifier, depress the rear panel Bridge switch to the IN position. Direct the signal to channel
A's input and connect the speakers across the hot outputs (the "+" binding posts) of channels A and B. Only channel
A's input attenuator is active while in Bridge Mono mode. Both connectors are strapped together, so either connector
can be used with a patch cable to drive the input of another amplifier.
Unlike the stereo mode, in which one side of each output is at ground, both sides are hot in bridged mode. Channel A's
side is the same polarity as its input with the minimum nominal load impedance being 4 ohms (equivalent to driving
both channels at 2 ohms) in bridged mode. Driving bridged loads of less than 4 ohms will activate the DDT
circuitry, resulting in a loss of power, and may also cause a thermal (overheating) overload.
Therefore, check the impedance of the cabs for each mode. Remember, if you connect two individual speakers in Parallel (+ to + and - to -) you cut the impedance in half. Two 8 ohm speakers in parallel now have a load of 4 ohms. Series connection + to - to + to -, will double the impedance. Two 8 ohm speakers will have a load of 16 ohms.
I have actually taken a two speaker cab with a 4 ohm impedance and opened up the back to re-do the wiring. I rechecked the impedance with a ohm meter. So yes, be careful. Whatever you do, keep the speaker lengths as short as possible. Buy really good speaker wire or if you make your own, go with 10 gauge wire.

I have a plad213 what load impendance am i running it i hook up 2 4ohm speakers in series bridged on that amp and how many watts RMS am i getting per speaker


2 4 ohm speakers wired in series is 8 ohms and then is dropped back down to 4 ohms when you bridge it.

2 4 ohm speakers wired in parallel is 2 ohms then dropped down to 1 ohm when bridged
(most amplifiers will not handle loads below 2 ohms)

Nice amplifier. However it is best suited for speakers and not for sub woofers. Connect the plus (+) from speaker output 1 and the minus (-) from speaker output 2. Connect the plus (+) from speaker output 3 and the minus (-) from speaker output 4. Now the amplifier is in bridge mode, which will give you 300 WATT RMS at 4 OHM load. If you are bridging the amplifier to run sub woofers then do not forget to set the X- Over to LPF on the channels that you are planning to bridge. Whatever you do, make sure that the load you are asking the amplifier to play is no lower than 4 OHM. Playing this amplifier in bridged mode lower than 4 OHM is a recipe for trouble.

Need help wiring 2 ohm L7's optimally please!


It depends on how long you plan on running your amp when you listen to your music. If you like it loud for a long time, I would kep our speaker load at 2 ohms to keep your amp cooler. If its for car audio competitions where it wont play for so long, ! ohm would give you higher output but heat up your amp faster. Are the subs 2 ohms at each voice coil or 4 ohms? Bridge your voice coils together in parallel then bridge the 2 speakers together in series. That should work fine for you.

I'm planning on installing a system in my pick-up and I was hoping I could get a little assistance. I was planning on using a pair of 5'' McIntosh ms486 coaxial speakers (120w max 4 ohm)in the front doors...


First of all use the larger output amp to power the sub. You can tell if its free-to-air if in the middle of the magnet there is a hole for "air" to flow freely. The advantage of free to air is they dont require much of an enclosure or next to none so you can mount it on a single piece of mdf wood and use the cab in the truck as an enclouse itself. I would bridge the amp for the sub to mono but be careful to tune so you dont "distort". Secondly the amp for the mid's shouldn't be bridged any maybe you could run the front and rear speakers off the same amp.. I would get an amp for rear and front speakers each and one for the sub. Your ouput rca's should goto the cross-over first then to the amp (sub) - then wired to your sub (mono) which is bridged. Ensure to tune your cross-over to lowest frequency for sub. Its easy to bridge an amp if its 4 channel.. looking at the speaker terminals it will look like ( + - + -) use the two outer most terminals to bridge to mono.

What do you mean by the subs should have more watts than the amp.and subs mean woofer ? actually i dont know any thing abt this. what is 8 ohm stereo, 8 ohm bridged,4 ohm stereo. etc etc...?


If your planning on using a stereo system in your car or home you need to follow some rules otherwise your just wasting money. The watts of a speaker means how much power it can handle. The higher the number the more power it can handle, and usually the louder it can get without distorting. If your amp has more power or close to the wattage rating of the speaker you will blow the speaker, it can even get so hot it ignites. The amount of ohms is the electrical resistance the speaker provides. House speakers usually have 8 ohms where car speakers tend to use 4. 8 ohm stereo means your left and your right are separate channels and each speaker has 8 ohms. 8 ohms bridged means you bridge the left and right channel to increase the power output of the amp and you have to use either 1 8 ohm speaker, or 2 4ohm speakers in parallel to prevent damage to the system. Same goes for 4 ohms. If I remember correctly you want your sub(woofer) to have a wattage rating 20% higher than the amp. Remember if the speaker overheats its no good, but most amps if they overheat they just shut off until they cool off, but only if they state they have a thermal overload protection.

How would i conect a ep2500 amp two 2 subs @ 4 ohms, or 8ohms


hey" i got 2 behringer 2500 amps and i have 2 peavey speaker that are 4 ohms 2000 watts eachand want to mono the amp separte,and i want to run 1 amp to each speaker so can you help me?

You probably have the output bridged at 2 ohms. This amp is not a 2 ohm bridged stable amp. It is 2 ohm stable only in stereo. That means each channel can be 2 ohms, buts not bridged at 2 ohms.

If you have two 4 ohm speakers that are wired in parallel and then you bridge them, you have a 2 ohm load.

They only safe way to use two 4 ohm speakers is to run one speaker to each channel and then you have a stereo 4 ohm load.

When you use a 2 ohm load you get twice the current draw thru the amplifier as you would with a 4 ohm load. That means that the fuse you are using, the rating the amplifier is designed for, will blow any time you have a big bass hit.

If you are not using a 2 ohm bridged load, and you are using a 4 ohm bridged or something the amplifier is rated for, and you still have this problem, you may have a bad speaker. Even a speaker that will play can sometimes be on the brink of shorting out and causing the amplifier to draw lots more current than it is rated for.

If this is the case, you should go and get your speakers checked and see if they are still measuring at 4 ohms or at least close to it. Most speakers will measure a little lower than what the are rated. It is not unusual for a 4 ohm speaker to measure at 3.5 ohms, but if it is less than that, you problem is the speaker. Even if the speaker still plays.

Sounds like you have overloaded your amp. When you bridge you MUST make sure that you still have the proper speaker load. One 4 ohm speaker on one channel is fine, but when you bridge that same 4 ohm speaker, it gives you a 2 ohm load on each of the two channels that are now bridged. If you made the mistake of wiring two 4 ohm speakers in parallel (plus to plus and minus to minus) then when you bridge you will be driving a one ohm load on each channel. This is very close to a dead short. Stop using your amp at once until you get your speaker load correct. This will damage your amp and it will cause you to have to go to a repair shop to fix it. DO NOT RUN YOUR AMP ANYMORE UNTIL YOU FIX THIS. Good luck.
