Brushes are mounted on the motor at the opposite to the belt pulley. A bit fiddly to get at but can be removed without removing the motor itself. Brushes are not the only reason for no spin of course. An easy way to check brushes is to use a simple multimeter and check continuity between the brush connector and the commutatir
You need to remove the lower rear cover of washer.
Remove the drive belt.
Unplug motor lead, and pull off earth wire.
Undo 2 bolts securing the motor to the tub.
Lever back the motor, and keeping a grip on the motor lift out of washer.
The brushes are located at the oppisite end to the pulley, they will probably be enclosed in black plastic holders, but you cannot mistake them, as they each have a wire going to them.
Hope this helps.
This motor does not have brushes fitted, the error code F01 indicates that the motor triac has shorted, this is part of the electronics that control the motor, it could possibly require a new main pcb, and/or new motor. If it is under 5 years old, then you are better off contacting Hotpoint, and getting it done under the 5 year part guarantee.
