Plug the power cable in, and switch the socket on. If there is no amber light on the power button, check the following:

1. The plug, fuse & socket itself.

2. The internal power supply of the TFT. These can be replaced, and sourced from various places. I repair these monitors, and use one myself, but don't have any (working) PSU's in stock. The best thing you can do is not to chuck it, but have it tested, and get the supply replaced.

If the power light does work, there is power, and either there is not enough power to fire it due to a failing PSU, or the inverter that lights the CCFL tubes has blown (and there's 4 tubes!), or another problem somewhere. It's been a while since i repaired one of these, but i can tell you it's not for general DIY'ers.

Best to take it to a professional repairer, or Dell, and let them sort it. They're expensive monitors, and lovely too. I won't even take the cover off mine either, unless i had to. There's 4 screws under where the stand clips, but Dell have the casing clipped together all the way round, and using a screwdriver to pop it off can damage it.

If there is no power light, check the plug & fuse (and the socket) If that fails, the internal power supply may have failed. Try replacing that.

Could be dead, but check to ensure that you are using the monitor ONLY, not TV tuner device. as a standalone, not hooked to cpu if there is no power light when plugged in assume your buying a new monitor.

The stand of my E173FPs monitor is broken. What can I do?

Sorry to hear that the stand had broken on your monitor.
many times there is a mounting in the center of the monitor back that accepts a standard 4 screw mounting, which almost any brand monitor will fit on, many of these type stands will adjust in height and also sometimes rotate to a portrait if you should like to read documents with the narrow side to the top.rotated 90 deg. some monitors do not have this option the mount is called (VESA mounting holes, 100mm (Behind attached base plate) but eBay is a great course for this type of part. I should have one of the Dell original mounts in my older parts area. but i see (Problem with Dell E197FP LCD Monitor) and (E173FPs) both in this unsolved problems, and knot knowing exactly the broken area, not sure of all you need to repair the broken area in question. Hello,

The E177fp and E197fp are identical units other than the size of the display panel. Here is a link to a repair guide for the E177fp that has videos showing how to open the unit. It should help you get your open.

Not in the monitor, there is a sound bar that attaches to the bottom of the screen that is optional that added speakers to that model.

My LCD Dell Flat Screen Monitor has a blue

Open it up and look at the capacitors. The round "tin can" looking components. If the tops appear bulged, then replacing them may help. Check out the YouTube video... and web site...

Monitor goes on blue tone

Try checking the VGA cable, both end of the connectors. Try it on another PC, we need to narrow down the cause first before opening up the monitor. Check your video card also.

Dell E197FP - Screen turns off and on constantly

Check the video connector to make sure it is clean and tight. Look closely for broken or bent pins by GENTLY rubbing your finger across the pins.

Otherwise, it sounds like the monitor screen is failing or has faulty wiring or components inside.
