Question about Dryers

1 Answer

Dryer only works for about 20 minutes, buzzes then stops.

My dryer will start up for about 20 minutes and then shut off. Before it shuts off it makes a buzzing noise. If I try to immediately restart it, it just makes the same buzzing noise as if it's trying to start doesn't. If I wait for approx. 30 - 60 minutes it will start back up and run. I'm thinking tha's it's either the motor or the drum support rollers. Any ideas?

I took the dryer apart and did find a lot of lint. I cleaned it out and it still has the same problem. I also ran the dryer on 'No Heat' and it made it almost all the way through the cycle and then I had the same problem.

Dryer shuts off prematurely. When I try to restart, it just buzzes. After an hour or 2 it restarts, but shuts down again after 20-25 minutes.

It is overheating for some reason , make sure the filters are clean and the dryer is not close to any wall. make sure the drum is free to turn and not binding.

What causes my dryer to stop after 20 minutes?

Sounds like a possible motor over heating. The main motor has a heat safety built in that shuts it off if it gets too hot. It will restart once it cools off some. Over heating could be from excessive lint around the motor or even from a blocked vent pipe. All you can do is clean it well and check again. If it still shuts off the motor will need replaced.

you need to send the model number kenmore doesn't make anything, the only way to tell who made it is by the model number but anyway if it stalls on you and you go to restart it does it make like a buzz sound if so you have a bad motor, when the motor cools off it starts again,it's not a t-stat or anything because when they fail they won't work again non resettable, most likely will be the motor

Turns off after a few minutes

sounds like your motor is overheating or going bad. sometimes lint built up around the motor can cause it to overheat. or the motor is dying.

Loud buzz when starting, then shutting down after 10 min.

Yes, this sounds like the motor cutting out on thermal lockout.

Kenmore Clean Touch dryer making buzzing sound and

Ya, happened to me. Sounds like you may have a clogged vent. (in the tube, or the dryer itself. Try cleaning that out really good. Then, double check that the venting is secured properly. If not, may overheat and shut down. I think that's what's going on. After you clean tubing (And the inside tube on dryer), the buzzing will continue for a while (days) until itr resets. If it runs after this, but still buzzes, that's your problem. Hope this helps you!
