Re: Camcorder as above
Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection(ieee 1394) in order to
download video to your PC if your computer (PC) did not come with a firewire port, so
you will have to buy one and install it, & if your camcorder did
not come with a firewire cord so you have to purchase a cord too.
camcorder has only a USB cord and that is used for downloading
stills from your camcorder, when capturing video just make sure your camera is in playback mode.

You can connect the Camcorder to the Computer using A/V interface to transfer the recordings to Computer.
Once you transfer the recordings from tape to computer, you can use any burning software to burn the recordings to DVDs.
In order to capture the analog videos, you can use the Windows Movie Maker available in the Computer.

Hi, You need to use DV Port in camcorder to transfer movie files into computer that must has same DV Port. USB port can not be used to transfer movie files as its just to provide still picture data. DV Port is maybe labeled as iLink in your camcorder so hook camcorder with computer with DV cable. Hope this info will help you. Thanks.
The computer must have standard Audio/Video (A/V) RCA input jacks and
compatible video capture software to complete this procedure.
Because there are many different video capture applications on the
market and we cannot reasonably know which video capture software you
are using, Sony is unable to provide specific instructions or support
for software we do not manufacture.
However, many video capture applications have detailed help files,
including specific instructions about capturing and importing video
from a camcorder to a computer.
The help files should be available in the Help menu of the
video capture software or in a separate file on the software disc. If
you cannot find instructions in the help file or on the disc included
with your software, consult the software manufacturer for more detailed
Connect an A/V cable to the A/V output jack of the camcorder:
If your camcorder has standard A/V RCA output jacks, use standard A/V cables for the connection.
If your camcorder has a mini A/V output jack, use an A/V cable with a mini connection on one end.
Connect the other end of the A/V cable to the A/V input jack on the computer.
Turn on the camcorder to the VCR, VTR or PLAYBACK mode.
Cue the video in the camcorder to the beginning of the video footage to be transferred.
Turn on the computer.
Start the video capture software.
Begin playing the video in the camcorder.
Begin importing the video with the video capture software.
Hello, Sony CCD-TRV218E is analog PAL camcorder and can not be hooked with PC directly. Computer (PC) requires digital format files to store on HDD and your camcorder has no digital file format to directly transfer in to computer.
You can hook your camcorder with DVD recorder to burn a DVD. Now you have digital files on DVD and can be transferred in PC.
You will need a firewire cable to transfer videos from a camcorder to PC. If it has USB interface you can also use a USB cable to transfer. Let me know the brand of your camcorder so that we can proceed further..
You need to download the movie to a computer and store it in a video file. Then you should be able to use a software program to burn it to a DVD. I use a TIVO for watching and burning my videos. You don't need a computer. You save the video by recording it to the TIVO's hard drive then after it is on the drive you DUB it to an empty DVD-R disc.
