Question about InFocus ScreenPlay 4805 Multimedia Projector

4805sp runs 4 or 5 minutes then shuts down

Have had 4805sp for 4 yrs and love it. No problems until last week when the infamous light tube problem reared its ugly head. With the help from a thread on AVS FORUM I attempted to fix the light tube. The only really hard part was getting the pj on without breaking the plastic. After closing it up I turned it on and found I had indeed fixed the problem. This is the problem. The pj will only run for 4 or 5 minutes and then shuts down. I have repeatedly opened and closed the pj looking for something unusual. I noticed that the fan behind the color wheel is running but the fan behind the lamp is not. Can you give me some info? Also, I noticed that you offered to send someone the service manual. I didn't know there was such a thing and have looked all over the internet for it. Would you please send it to me?

Hi there

Yeah, thats the bad fault that one. The fault you have described is the main controller board giving up the ghost and stops supplying enough voltage to the fan tp allow it to run, and shutting down after 4 or 5 mins is the safety thermostat on the bulb cutting it out as to not cause any damage due to overheating. My projector had both these same faults, I ended up just buying a new light tunnel after many attempts of glueing mine back together unsuccesfully =(, and to fix the fan issue (without spending $800 on a new controller board), I permanently mounted the insides of an old nokia charger inside the projector, which supplies the fan with its own power source, worked like a charm =D. Yes I would be more then happy to send you the service manual, may I have your email adress to send it to?

Cheers

could be the fan should be running to cool the lamp. there could be temperature sensor that is why it is shutting down to save your lamp.

check the fan if it has continuity. it could be broken and need to be replaced.

if the lamp lights and then shuts down, replace the lamp. it's at the end of it's life. to rule out overheating, blow the projector out with canned air. dust retains the heat that the projector is trying to expell. also see if all of the fans are working. if you do get an image for a short time, try to get into the menu to reset the settings to factory default. lastly, if all else fails, you have a ballast issue. unfortunately, infocus no longer sells parts for this model.

It sounds like it is overheating. Are the fans all working? If so, try opening the casing and blowing all the dust out with a can of air from Staples/Office Depot. If the fans aren't working you may need to replace them.

Compaq MP2800 Lamp powers down after a few seconds

Hi Wayne

It is normal for the lamp's fan to start running , but should actually happen within 15 seconds of starting up. Try changing the lamp's fan and if the problem still persists then you will have to replace the Ballast ( lamp's powersupply )

Green light flashing and then shuts down

Hi Gary

Have you resetted the lamp timer ? It must be done when a new lamp is inserted into the unit.

You can reset the lamp timer by holding the up arrow key on the Projector in until a online message appears. Then just follow the on-screen instructions.

If the problem persists , you will have to replace the Ballast wich is the lamp's power supply.

Help me!!!!

Hello folks! I bought my unit on 11/2006. After 1532 lamp hours on eco-mode, my unit would start shutting off after just 2-3 minutes. Same problems you guys are having. Based on the comments I've received from the TECH guy where I purchased the unit, it appears that these units have IRIS problems. Here's how you can tell if its an IRIS problem...according to the TECH guy:

1. Get the unit powered up as usual.
2. Wait until its projecting enough light to see a menu on the screen.
3. Using the remote control, PRESS the "POWER" button again to see the power off confirmation screen, then PRESS the ARROW keys in the following order: RIGHT, UP, DOWN, UP, DOWN, then PRESS ENTER.
4. The EXT OPTION menu should then be displayed.
5. SELECT the "SELF CHECK" option using the arrow keys.
6. Look for the word "IRIS. If that word or any word on that line appears in "RED" color, then the IRIS is faulty and needs to be replaced.
I just called Panasonic's Service dept. and they gave me a CASE NUMBER and asked me to FAX my original INVOICE to them. She told me they are going to review my claim and see if they can provide assistance or whatever. Apparently...Panasonic knows of this problem according to the TECH guy at the place where I bought my unit in late 2006. Good luck! Steve 717-891-2062
