Question about Apple MacBook 13"White /2.0Ghz Intel Core2 Duo White/2GB (2x1gb)/80GB/SuperDrive (Z0DT) Mac Notebook

1 Answer

Battery? I have a Macbook with leopard, only a few months old. A few days ago, it wouldn't turn on. So i figured the battery wasn't charged. I plugged it in to the power adapter and it turned on. But the battery status is "not charging" and it remains at 0%. I removed the battery while the power adapter was connected, and that did nothing, I also removed the battery while the Power adapter wasn't connected. There are some other minor things that happen also, occasionally the application "Photobooth" will not open. I have problems with it opening websites occassionally, even if I have full wireless reception. And for the first 2 days that I was experiencing this battery problem, the help chapter on battery status "not charging" in the help program would not open.

Could be a disc error. Make sure your battery is in the correct way as it can go in 2 different ways. Line the slots on the battery to the prongs on the laptop. Before I go on, it may be you battery is dead for some reason?

Go to applications folder, find disc utility and hit "repair disc" it will come up with ANY problems your computer is having. You will then have the option to "fix errors"

Try that.

My macbook battery is not charging

This issue could be due to 2 different issues.

1. Your battery is dead.
2. Your power cable is dead.

If your power cable still lights up green when you plug it in then the issue is most likely due to your battery. Since you have a old Macbook it is probably not under warranty therefore you will have to pay for the repair. You could either have Apple replace the battery for you or if you could buy a battery online and do it yourself.

Macbook black will not start beyond the initial 'bong'. Blue screen followed by endless spinning gear. PRAM, SMV reset, no go. Safe mode can't complete. With battery or on power adapter same result....

Hello yang2699tlk,
Try this instead of using your Leopard Disc.

  1. Immediately after the "bong" press and hold down "Command + S".
  2. Wait for blinking cursor and then type fsck -y (exactly like that).
  3. If you receive an "Appears to be OK" then type reboot and hit the return key.
  4. If you receive a "Disk has been modified" then repeat the fsck -y command until you get an "Appears to be OK" then type reboot and hit the return key.

This set of commands entered in "Single User Mode" will repair your disk. If this does not work remove the hard drive, plug it into another Mac and transfer your data to a different computer. Then install a new hard drive and reinstall Mac OS X.

Hope this helps, don't forget to vote. Thanks.

Unexpected shutdown with fresh battery ...only cycled 23 times so far. Mac shuts down after about 3 minutes....then shuts down on boot sequence after that. No warning...just shuts down instantly. Macbook...

"Shuts down instantly without warning" is the hallmark of a faulty battery. "All five lights on" is meaningless, as batteries with this fault go from 100% to 0% in a finger-snap. Assuming your battery is under warranty, it should be replaced at no charge.

Hard drive failure

You can contact this companies regarding data recovery. The "Genius" was wrong about the drive being retuned to Apple, that will only occur if you have a system under warranty, and you would be returning it to Apple to avoid being charged.

As far as replacement hard drive going for $325, that too is pretty steep, see this link:

Macbook Battery Problems

Hi Molle
To answer your last question first. It is best if possible to use the mains power when you are using your macBook and only use the battery when you cannot connect to mains.

MacBook batteries have a life span based on the number of charge cycles the battery has been through. The battery has a max of 300 cycles before it starts to loss its charge capability. SO you need to determine the health of the battery is it chargeing etc. You can do this via the apple menu and 'about this mac'

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1519

Check the health of the battery as the battery could be faulty if it has only cycled a few times or it may have gone over the 300 and is now lossing its charge in which case you'll need to get a new one.

Hope that helps

Short battery life

$orry, theres no fix to this, after a while batterys begin to die and the life becomes shorter. this could be due to leaving it on charge all day and night and not letting it frequently loose and gain charge again. even my laptop battery has began to lose its battery length - but ive had my battery for a long time. purchase a new battery and try to keep from leaving the A/C adapter in over night. you should notice alot longer battery length after that. rate me :)
