I had this problem and needed to remove and dis-assemble the volume control and clean it with tuner cleaner. After that it worked fine.

Harman Kardon AVR 120 volume goes up all by itself. I turn it down, it goes up again. over and over ... then it stops doing it. Is it the optical cable? COMCAST?

After setting volume remove all remotes from the room. It is possible that a button is staying activated.

All in the setup of the TV if you are using the "net" option that allows for communication between devices on the HDMI connection turn off as a possibility.

Last resort is the volume control motor driven knob on receiver see if receiver is defective try with other inputs such as radio etc.

Disconnect all inputs and see if volume increases?

Hope this helps?

Kenwood KA 995 amp. volume control, as you increase or decrease the sound, a loud clicking sound is heard.

Katrina, this sounds like a dirty potentiometer (volume control knob). Try turning the unit off, and exercising the knob. That means turn it full turns, many times, like 70 times. Then try it again with power. Sometimes this helps.

Why could my volume knob be stuck on max volume and not adjusting?

There is probably grease or dirt on the contacts inside the unit. Here's a video that shows you how to fix it:

Volume problem with VSX-D409

Had the same problem. I had to replace the volume contol. It was inside the receiver behind the knob. It has a part# on it. Mine was part# AWX7386 (control assembly) from Pioneer.com. If you can figure out how to open the case than you can change this piece. Good luck

Volume control

Well here goes a spelling problem for me. You need to replace a component called a podentiomiter. It is the actual volume control behind the knob. I have had to replace a few of these, and pioneer seems to to more prone to these problems.

It has lost partially the mechanical connection between the volume control knob and the volume control pot.

The knob could be "stripped". A drop of a slightly resilient glue should do the trick. Do not use rigid adhesives, as this will prevent future service to this area of your receiver....accordianman
