I have a dell optiplex G240.its ram is 256 and 512mb.but now 512mb ram doesnt support.what can i do?

Well, there are many different types of Ram (Memory) available for many different motherboards. Your current computer support a maximum of 1Gb of ram. And judging from the date it was released, your motherboard seems as though it only supports DDR Ram. Therefore you may either have to buy another set of ram or buy another computer (used if possible). Although the second option is only valid if you are looking for something that is faster than what you currently have. Personally speaking upgrading the memory for an old build will not give you the best performance out there.

List of Memory Type
Ranging from Slow to fast
-------------------------
DDR Memory
DDR2 Memory
DDR3 Memory
DDR4 Memory

Other Thought's
---------------
Re-seating your Ram(Memory) may help get your 512MB
ram running again, however if your 512MB ram is a faulty module it may fail to work.

How to use System Recovery console (steps)

Starting a Recovery

Turn on the computer and immediately begin pressing the F10 key repeatedly until a Recovery Screen appears.
You can also start a recovery from recovery discs, or from Windows. For more information refer to Performing a Full System Recovery in Windows XP .

Recovery is taking too long
If your computer stops responding after using the recovery program, do the following:

NOTE:If the computer appears to have stopped responding after restarting from a recovery, please wait, it may take several hours or longer to complete the initial Windows XP setup process, especially if a recovery was run from a recovery disc set sent by HP. A Standard recovery may also take longer, depending on how many files are stored in user accounts (like in My Documents ).

1 Exit the stalled recovery process by pressing the POWER button on the PC until the power turns off, this takes approximately five seconds.
2 Before recovering, disconnect personal media drives, printers, scanners, cameras, camera-type memory cards, and other devices that did not originally come with the PC.
3 If you are using recovery discs, be aware of the following items:
4 If you created the recovery discs using Recovery CD Creator, be sure to run the recovery from the same drive that you used to create the discs.
5 Clean the discs with a soft, clean, lint-free cloth wetted with distilled water. Wipe from the center of the disc to the outside edge. You may also use disc cleaning kits or disc restoration kits from your local computer store. These kits produce better results than using cloth and water.
6 You may also use available CD/DVD Drive cleaning kits to clean the laser reading lens of the CD or DVD drive.
Try running a full system recovery again from the hard drive by turning the on the computer and pressing the F10 key until a Recovery Screen appears. This performs the recovery from the hard drive.
7 If the recovery stops when recovering from the hard drive, use the section Disc errors occur during the recovery process to eliminate errors on the drive. Try recovering again after the disk errors are removed.

Maximum hard disk size for hp a1610n

Based on The Spec's of your System you have a 250gb Hard Drive however the Maximum size will be less then that due to formatting the drive so you can expect that to be like 10% less then 250gb (just a guess) plus a lot of computers come with a restore partition which is usually around 12gb assuming you leave it factory stock.... Your computer by default will set your Hard Drive to the Maximum size... now as far as how big you can install the sky is the Limit your computer is new enough it should except any size Hard Drive available at the store.

What only do I need enabled in system configuration utility to speed up computer? Will reducing percentage of recycle bin and browser history settings help? What about turn off D in system restore...

Cleaing out your recycle bin and deleting your browser history and cookies might speed it up a bit, but the other stuff you mentioned won't do much.

A good program for doing this is CCLEANER available free from CNET.COM at the following link:

http://download.cnet.com/ccleaner/?tag=main;productListing

Just use your mouse to click on the link, which is the underlined and highlighted text just above. This will open a new web browser page automatically for you and allow you to view the information at the website indicated and download the software if you want.

Another good way to speed up your computer a bit for free is to DEFRAGMENT your hard drive.
Click on START.
MY COMPUTER.
RIGHT Click LOCAL DISK (C:).
Select PROPERTIES.
Select TOOLS tab.
Click on DEFRAGMENT NOW.
This process will take a while, maybe even an hour or two, but after it's done you should notice a difference depending on the condition of the drive at the start.

The best way to speed up your machine though, is to add RAM memory.

One easy way to find out for sure how much RAM your computer can hold is to go to WWW.CRUCIAL.COM and run their SCAN MY COMPUTER feature.

This handy utility will scan your hardware configuration and tell you exactly how much RAM memory you currently have installed and what type it is.

It will also tell you how many RAM slots are fitted on your motherboard and what the maximum memory capacity for each individual slot is, as well as the maximum total RAM that the motherboard can handle.

If your computer does have room to add more RAM, it will provide you with specific recommendations as to exactly what type and size of RAM stick to buy in order to maximize the memory capacity and performance of your computer.

Good luck.
