Question about Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

Panasonic microwave NNA554W combi

The door wpn't close. The catches seem to be very loose, therefore I am unable to use it. I have a Whatever Happens agreement which expires 18/08/11. I have tried ringing, after endless buttons to press and listening to the ringing tone for several minutes, I am told there is a fault. What can I do?

The door latch heads (the hooklike devices sticking out of the door) should resist you when you press gently up on them.

They have a spring attached inside which keeps downward pressure.

If you can flip the latch heads up easily, then the spring mount inside the door may be broken.

I'm afraid you'll have to keep trying the number for Whatever Happens or call Currys and see if they have a new number for them.

Good luck.

Am having some "slack" when opening the latch. Can't see any debris around it. What now?

I have a very old Kenmore microwave. It's latches are plastic, probably Teflon due to temperature. They slide up to catch on
a metal "ramped anchor". I would check for problems with the recessed catches "ramped anchor" or the movement of the catches. There is also a micro switch lever that if bent or out of place might prevent the catch going in far enough. Or something in the door or the anchor have come loose so that it does not completely close.

The problem is in the magnetron, or the inverter board if unit is 7 years old or less.

Most likely it is a mechanical problem with door safety switch. Unplug the unit from power! If you take the cover off, you will be able to determine if switch is defective by using ohm meter. You may be lucky and find a broken door latch or loose switch holder - look for lose plastic parts. !!! Do not attempt to bypass safety switch.

Microwave door spring broken

You have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the previously hidden screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) that demonstrates how it's done.

You can order parts from Encompass here or you can call them toll-free at 866-779-5835.

Panasonic NNA554W blows 10a fuse when microwave comes on

Possibly the interlock monitor switch is bad or out of adjustment. This switch is designed to create a short circuit across the power line (and then blow the fuse) if you attempt to defeat the door interlock and operate the oven with the door open. A shorted capacitor or diode could also cause the fuse to blow. Because of lethal voltages inside and the possibility of microwave leakage if repairs aren't done correctly, you are best off leaving microwave service to professionals.

You mean it doesn't heat?

Any other symptoms or problems?

Generally, the most common causes of a failure to heat are:

- bad door switches or door switch mounts
- loose connection at the magnetron
- problem or loose conneciton on the control unit circuit board
- bad magnetron or other high voltage part
