I just got a used Samsung 170 MP with out the remote, and all the menu options are locked. I can not even change the channels or adjust the contrast. Is there a way to reset or un-lock everything without the remote ??.

Hi,Does the icon look like a large satellite dish? Make sure your TV is on "TV" and not "DTV" before retuning.
To re-tune analogue channels:
I have a Samsung TV and that icon is not accessible from the menu if i am watching the tv on the digital option of my remote. You have to switch your tv to the "tv" option on your remote and you will be able to access the icon from your menu. (on your remote, you should have a button with TV/DTV on it)
To re-tune analogue channels, if you want to re-tune digital channels, then look for the "D MENU" button on your remote. Press this then scroll down to the icon that looks like a large satellite and then on "Auto Store" This will re-tune your digital channels :0)
OK the cable box remote is the only one that can change channels in this case. because you are using the tuner in the cable box not the TV. all you need the TV remote for is to turn the TV on and off and turn the sound up and down. if you used the cable input on the TV then the tv remote would be used to change the channels.
just spoke to Samsung support and it turns out that the freeview tuner had froze and needed resetting. To do this put TV on standby and then push in series these buttons on the remote: 'info, menu, mute, power' the TV will then turn itself on and display a menu. Press the 'down arrow' untill you've highlighted option 12 - 'reset' and then press the 'right arrow' to enter the option. TV will turn off and when you turn back on it will start in 'plug & play' mode as if new. Set the time and country options and then it will perform a complete scan. I've just retuned mine and all back to normal. Hoorah!!!! :-)
Updating the Channel List Automatically You can update the channel list when the broadcaster adds new Services or if you move the TV to a new location. 1. Press the MENU button to display the menu. Press the ▲ or ▼ button to select "Digital Menu", then press the ENTER button. 2. Press the ▲ or ▼ button to select "Channel", then press the ENTER button. 3. Press the ENTER button again, to select "Country". 4. Select the appropriate country by pressing the ▲ or ▼ button. Press the ENTER button to confirm your choice. Even though you have changed the country setting in this menu, the country setting for Analogue TV is not changed. (Refer to page 11 of the user guide) 5. Press the ▲ or ▼ button again, to select "Auto Store". Press the ENTER button. When it has finished, the number of scanned services will be displayed. The existing favourite channel list will not be deleted when the channel list is updated. To stop the scan before it has finished, press the ENTER button with "STOP" selected. 6. Press the EXIT button to exit. If the signal status is poor, the "No Service found! Check the aerial connection" message is displayed. Check the aerial connection and the try the procedure again
ie menu = Menu
Channel up/down = take you up and down
volume = goes left and right.
follow these steps
channel down button to CHANNEL
press the volume button along
channel down button to AUTO STORE
press the volume button to Start the scan.
right now you have your telly tuned in. What you could do it get an old sky remote off a friend/ neighbour. or buy from argos etc ( a lot cheaper then getting a replacement samsung one)
press the following buttons on the sky remote to program it to work with your samsung tv.
RED + SELECT
try the volume if this works press SELECT to save this code if it doesnt press Tv then try the volume again. repeat this step until the volume works your telly. once it doest dont forget to press the SELECT button to save.
Now you will be able to change your volume use the number keys. if you also press the HELP button on the sky remote this will also change your AV / SOURCE I hope this post helps you out. When it does please leave a thumbs up for me Please
Beware: Although the process should be safe, it technically voids your warranty.
