I have the same problem. After having a friends taking pictures, and set it down for a while, I tried to turn it on. It came on with the lense sticking out but there's nothing to view on the LCD. I tried to turn it off but I couldn't. I took out the battery. It didn't turn off either. The lense is still out. Put the batter back in and pushed the on/off button, the lense moved in and moved out again and the same problem exists. I have to do the same but when the lense moves in (like while it's shutting down), I immediately take the battery out to have it in off mode. But after put the battery back in and turn it on, same problem exists. Please help!

As described I experience the same problem. When camera is turned on the lense goes out, the Exilim startup intro of 2 secs flash on LCD display then the LCD screen goes black and nothing else happens. I can't turn off the camera by regular means (pressing on/off button). If I take out the battery and reinstert it, and press on/off button, the lense detracts. But if I press the on/off button again, same issue all over. I've tried to upgrade the firmware by downloading latest one, copying it to the SD card, then holding down menu while pressing on/off button. Same issue all over, except that this time I get to see "version 1.0.0" displayed before the exilim intro... I've tried to google if there's some sort of "hard reset" options (by holding multiple buttons down or something), but with no luck...

ughh i have the same problem!
okay so me and my friends were taking pictures, just normally.
then the screen goes black and the lens makes a noise but doesn't detract
i try pressing the on/off button, it makes a little noise and the green light flashes and it feels like the lens is going to detract, but doesn't
tried taking the battery out & charging it fully, nothing.
HELPPP I HAVE A SHOW TOMORROW AND I WANNA TAKE PICTURES!!

Canon 60D playback images turning up black

Did you switch to Tv (shutter mode) and took pictures for several seconds? like in the dark? Because saving the picture can take as long as the shutter time was.
Before panic. (Actually you never should panic) check your camera in automatic mode. And make sure you did not select any power save action, that puts your display on dark while shooting.
But always be sure your battery is charged and check its capacity. In the menu yo can check under the wrench symbol, when you select Battery info. Page 268 of the manual.
Working with a bad battery can damage the camera in the end.

Pictures that I am taking with my Canon Rebel EOS suddenly were black on 3/4 of the picture. I checked pictures taken in the camera just before this happened and they are OK, so I don't think it

I think there is a problem with the mirror in the camera that lifts out of the way when you hit the shutter. It may be stuck or not fully retracting. Take it into a camera shop and have them check it.

Hi Suddenly my g11 is blind lcd is working but camera doesn't see anything lcd is black in all modes like electronic courtain does not open exposing sensor all other functions are seems to be...

There is two ways to view your "taking picture" with the LCD and with the viewfinder, you can shut the LCD off to save battery power and use the viewfinder and that is what I think has happened. a touch of the DISP button and it will switch from the LCD to the viewfinder. here is a diagram

With you saying the LCD is working for functions but not for taking pictures this is what I suspect is the problem.

My Canon Sd1000 will not take pictures. You can

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open).

To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.

Note that your camera does not have shutter priority mode (Tv) as listed in the link. Instead, put the camera in manual mode and turn off the flash, and also turn off the LCD display (press the DISP button). With these settings, try the fix in a darkened room, opening the battery door immediately after taking the picture. Give it several tries, if no luck consider also trying step 5a described in the link.

After downloading pictures to printer, turned on camera but screen just black. Will take pictures but everything just black.

If there is no light in the little light above the LCD.
Here are the steps:
1. Make sure you will install a new or fully charged battery/batteries into your camera. Please use lithium batteries Ni-Mh or rechargeable Batteries (2000 M.Amp or higher).
2. Clean the battery contacts.
a. Remove the battery/batteries and the memory card from your camera, then wipe the battery contacts with a soft, clean cloth.
b. Reinstall the battery/batteries into your camera
3. Turn on your camera without the memory card.

If there is a light in the little lamp above the LCD.

Screen is black....will not display whats being taken a picture of nor is taking pictures.

Am assuming that you've already tried pressing the DISP button on the back of your camera. Is it not taking pictures, or are the pictures it is taking also black like the LCD? If black pictures, a stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open).

A640 freeezes while taking pictures

Your problem may be due to corrosion on the battery contacts inside the camera which can prevent the full power of the batteries from flowing into the camera. Try this free fix before you do anything else: remove the batteries and wipe the camera contacts firmly with a dry cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that may have fallen into the battery compartment during cleaning, then wipe both ends of the batteries and place them back in the camera. This cleaning clears the problem about 90% of the time. If it doesn't work for you, your camera may have a problem that requires professional repair.

Pictures are black

My 4300 works fine until this week. No picture display on the LCD screen. Settings like date, exposure, etc.. are fine on the LCD screen. Able to get into setup mode and the colour menu selection box is fine. This shows that the LCD screen is working fine. Prior to this happening, I notice that when I took pictures in zoom mode, the picture turn out to be orange. I suspect this is caused by electronic failure. Light entering the lens cannot be transmitted to the LCD screen. Some photoelectronic stuff had reached its MTBF (mean time between failure)? Is there a way to save this camera?

When using the zoom button the cam stops working

This suggests the zoom motor has failed. As you only purchased it 2 weeks ago - it should be replaced under warranty
