Can I disable wireless and connect with ethernet cord and modem, for work do not want remove wireless cord, in the day want to be able to use my wireless.

Are you talking about direct-connecting via Ethernet to a cable or DSL modem? You shouldn't have to disable wireless to do that. If the cable modem has an open Ethernet port, you should be able to run a straight-thru Ethernet Cat-5 cable between that port and the Ethernet port on your laptop. The laptop should recognize that it is connected to the modem through the direct connection. Check the manual for the cable modem or information supplied by your ISP for connection details. You may have to do some setup on the modem to get an Internet connection, like having your ISP 'activate' the modem. Just be sure your Ethernet cable is a straight-thru, standard Ethernet cable, and not a 'cross-over' cable such as is used to transfer data between two computers.

I can get internet on my house computer that its connected to via ethernet cord, however, i can't connect wirelessly using my laptop. My laptop has no problem connected to other peoples wireless...

When u try to connect wirelessly with your laptop does it find your home network when you scan for available networks...If so you need to input the SSID and passsword which is on the bottom of your wireless router usually or you should have received a card with these details on from your Internet provider....Hope this helps xx

My internet connection via Ethernet vanishes when i disable my wireless connection. how can i keep this from happening. it's on a old Gateway MX6214 PC Notebook.

Sounds like it's connecting through wireless so when it's switched off, it stops.

Go to 'my computer' if you're using XP and right click, click 'properties'.

Go to hardware, then Device manager.

Look downlown list and choose 'network adaptors'.

See if both wireless and ethernet are working OK. Use properties to check.

What do i need to connect to internet?

As posted above you will need a wireless router. You need to remember that when you plug in your wireless router you need to power cycle your modem first so that way it can refresh its ip address. Once you have the router hooked up then you can run an ethernet cable from the router to your main pc and also use your laptop wirelessly at the same time. Typically, on most laptops the icon to configure your wireless is in the task tray at the bottom right hand corner of the screen. Please rate if this was helpful. Thank you.

Cant connect to the internet!!!

well first i can suggest trying to reinstall the drivers for the ethernet controller and the wireless card you are using. if that does not solve the problem, then are you subscribed to internet through cable, which is what your router connects to?

Pc works via ethernet cable but wireless laptop cannot see the network

I think you have lost your PPPOE internet connection. Reestablish the connection. If this is not the problem, click your wireless connection on the taskbar and search for your wireless device and reconnect. BPCS

Are you doing this wirelessly or with a wire (Ethernet cable).?
Do the setup with an ethernet cable first, then try wireless after setting it up.
