I have a AEG Lavamat 1230, and I also need to replace the rubber gasket, because the original one is chipped and is leaking. I have the new part, but am having a hard time to remove the old, and put in a new. Is there anything that has to be removed from the machine to loosen it?

Hi again,

Rubber gasket due to their function would be tight fitting, you may need to force it out. Often it would have a lip or locking protrusion to keep it in places. The hard part is being able to remove a portion of it off the framework and the rest will follow.

A flat screwdriver may help but you must be careful not to cut or "wound" the rubber gasket. Force the screw driver between the rubber gasket and the metal part until a space is seen, thereafter manually pull out the gasket. Pls check if the gasket has a notch somewhere. Some models have gaskets with notch r marking to indicate which end/side/part goes where.

Replace boot gasket

Hello, Remove the door hinges and plastic covers on the unused hinge screw holes on the opposite side of the door opening (door is reversible, so there are places to mount hinges left and right). Front panel will now snap out at top and lift off lower spring clips. One screw on each side will now release top panel and it will hinge up. Prop up with broom handle or something. Now you can get at everything. Rubber gasket is held onto drum with a cable loop and very strong spring. It rolls off the lip easily to disassemble but is VERY difficult to get back on without special tools or at least two people. Door side of rubber gasket is easy in comparison with rubber tabs inserted into slots and working the gasket into a groove. Hose clamp at bottom of rubber gasket to connect drain hose.

Thanks

Kenmore washer need to put rubber gasket retaining spring back on. Any tricks, seems impossible. Peter

I assume that you're talking about the inner spring. It's very tight, so you have to get the rubber gasket (bellows) fitted on the its frame, then push the bellows inside out in toward the tub. Start with placing the spring in its groove at 12 o'clock. Wedge something between the bellows and the white colored weight ring of the tub. You'll need something approx 3/4" in diameter to wedge the top of the spring in place. (I've used a 1/2"X90 degree copper elbow I had laying around that had an approx outside diameter of 3/4"). This will hold the spring in place as you work it around. It is still very difficult and you may have to stretch the spring ever so slightly to get it back into the groove. Once the spring is back on, remove the wedge, fold the bellows back out and attach the fill hose and attach bellows back to front panel.

by chance if you removed the drain hose on the machine when you replaced the direct driv coupling, did you insert the drain hose back in too far, it only needs to be inserted into the drain about 4 inches and should not be sealed air tight
if it is inserted too far it will siphon out the water untill the pressure switch calls for it to fill back up over and over

check the drain hose and let me know if you need any more help
