Had problems charging mine, bought replacement battery and it wouldn't charge either. Looked inside charging port and noticed a slightly bent pin, straightened it and works perfectly. Bought battery from batterybob.com $26 vs $49 from skygolf.

Your connection port is broken and will need to be sent in for repair. Sure enough, you could wiggle the port to where it may work for you for a while, but eventually, this will only worsen. Contact SkyGolf and send the unit in.

Tip

Loss of GPS Signal and Yardages

It is often thought that a GPS device like the SkyCaddie should keep constant uninterrupted view and connection to the satellites, thus always giving accurate yardage information. This is true of cellular technology, indoors or out, etc, but not for a GPS device like the SkyCaddie. A clear, unobstructed view of the sky must always be maintained for optimum performance. Here are some other tips:

1. When going to play golf, the SkyCaddie should have a fully charged battery and should be allowed to search and acquire satellites for at least 10-15 minutes, prior to play. During this time, the device should be stationary. Many people power the device on then head straight to the course. From that point on, the yardage info you get may be off or may not show at all.

2. Is the golf course you are playing in need of an update? It's good to plug your SkyCaddie into your computer and allow it to sync with the SkyCaddie desktop software. You will receive updates to the device if you do this periodically and you can view your course list to see if any of your downloaded golf courses should need an update. An unupdated golf course on the device can cause yardage problems.

3. Placing the SkyCaddie in your pocket during the game, placing it in a golf cart cup holder, tall trees or heavy shrubbery, hilly terrain, very overcast cloudy days, etc., all can impede satellite acquisition and yardage accuracy.

4. Internal issues. Most SkyCaddie models may have an outward antennae view, but there is also an inward antennae connection that could be compromised. If this is true, the user will not know this, as this type of issue is internal and will need to be sent in to the company for repair, contact them to have this done. This can also be the source of why a device never seems to acquire satellites and/or give accurate yardage information.

My sky caddie sg5 wont charge

If you follow these instructions which I think you know how to, it will recharge. If not the rechargeable battery needs to be replaced

To charge the battery, simply follow the steps below:
  1. Gently pull back the rubber cover to gain access to the mini-USB port located at the bottom of the SkyCaddie. Insert the mini-USB connector of the supplied wall charger into the mini-USB slot.
  2. Plug the wall charger into the AC wall outlet. While charging, the charging indicator in the upper left-hand side of the SkyCaddie will show red. The charging indicator will switch to green when fully charged. You may also notice the unit's screen turn on and off periodically.
The battery will charge, even with the SkyCaddie turned off. A full battery charge may take 4 hours. Once fully charged, expect 36 holes of continuous play.

Warning!Always connect the cable to the SkyCaddie first before connecting to AC power or PC USB.

Hi, If the unit has a charging plug you can use an adapter to charge it. You may be able to get a Kit to charge it in your car, truck or house. Good luck.

Installed new battery and still shows low battery after 2 holes and 24 hours of charging

if all cables on battery are clean and tight, then most likely it is the alternator putting out a low charge. test the alternator it should be at least 14 or a little more when running. 12.5 to 13 when off. if alternator is ok, then check all wiring from alternator to battery, and make sure the battery ground is ok!! best of luck carl,

Unit taking long time to establish satellite connection?

5-7 mins is not unusual in many cases. Battery condition has a lot to do with the time it takes to establish connection. Recharge or replkace batteries with better quality ones and keep well charged up if you use rechargeable ones

Make sure your cord is plugged into the SkyCaddie with the cord pointing down towards the battery, not going up. It makes sense and it is easier to plug in with the cord going up, but you will eliminate this error if you plug in the cord with the cord going up.

How long have you had this battery for this device? Is it the same battery you have had in the device since date of purchase? Since I don't know the answer to these questions, if the battery is over 12 months old, you need a replacement, quite possibly, even if it is indicating a full battery. The other side of the coin is if it is NOT the battery, it could unfortunately something has gone wrong internally and you may need to send the device in for repair. Try leaving the device's wall charger plugged in and then power the device on and select start to see if the device will then automatically shut off. If it still shuts off, there is an internal problem with the device. If it does not shut off while the charger is plugged in, but shuts off when the charger is NOT plugged in, sounds like a battery issue.
