The receiver light was intermittent, but now it's off all the time. I've only had it for one year. I believe an internal wire broke.

none of these solutions resolves my issue, this is my 2nd MS mouse that has failed and the 1023 did it in less then a year. Any way to fix the USB jack where I think the problem is?

This is the driver installation program. Just run it and select which mouse you have (which should be wireless notebook optical mouse, according to your post). And then restart your computer and VOILA! Your mouse should work! Good Luck.

I had the same problem, and I fixed it by opening up the mouse and cleaning off the circuit board using rosin solder flux solvent. Apparently something, possibly fluid from a leaking battery, had gotten on parts of the circuit board. When I reassembled the mouse, it now worked perfectly.

WARNING: do this only if you feel comfortable disassembling small electronic devices and only as a last resort as you risk ruining the mouse. To disassemble the mouse, peel off the four glued-on rubber feet on the bottom and then remove the four Phillips head screws underneath the feet. Then carefully disassemble the top half from the bottom. You can then lift the circuit board out. Here's a link to a breakdown and images of a similar Microsoft wireless mouse:

http://techrepublic.com.com/2346-10877_11-88648.html

After I opened the mouse I used the brush in the solvent to wipe off any suspicious-looking areas. A magnifying glass or low-power microscope can help find contaminated areas. The solvent I used was m-line rosin solvent which is 50% isopropanol and 50% toluene. You probably could use either of these solvents by themselves as well. Be careful with anything containing toluene, since it could disolve rubber and possibly some plastics, remove paint, etc. so don't get it on the mouse body.

When you reassemble the mouse, make sure to properly replace the little plastic disc that has a nub poking through the "Connect" hole on the bottom of the mouse. Once you reassemble the mouse, hopefully it will now start working again.

If it was working and it started to fail and now won't work at all, don't bother with the drivers. I found that if you wedge something between the USB receiver and anything below it, so the receiver is angled upwards, you can get connectivity and it will work fine.

Example: I have 2 USB ports vertically aligned. I stuck a nail in between the the two so the mouse receiver (on top) was angled upwards and the connect button illuminated.

It will sometimes turn off if you bump it. Also, if this solution works and it is disconnected and you try plugging it in and it wont work, restart the computer and try again - this has worked for me. Hope this solves your issues. If not, try pricewatch.com or newegg. You can find a wireless mouse for $5-10 USD.

Microsoft wireless notebook optical mouse 1023 - not working!

If you know that the battery is good then try this next. There is a VERY tiny shark-fin shaped spring-loaded button on the bottom of the mouse that is pressed in, when you insert the receiver, while the mouse is not in use, that turns off the mouse to save the batteries. If you haven't used the mouse in a while, it can get stuck in the in position, so that when you pull out the receiver, it doesn't spring out and turn the mouse on (indicated by the red light on the bottom). If you notice that the light isn't coming on. Just try manually pushing in the little shark-fin thing a couple times to make it spring back out. After a couple times, you should be able to get it unstuck and the red light should come on.

Microsoft Wireless Notebook Model 1023

windows should come with drivers for it, but microsoft.com has a full suite of intellipoint drivers available for all its mice which adds functionality windows drivers don't give it. If it is not working at all the problem is most likely not driver related.

MICROSOFT WIRELESS MOUSE NOT WORKING LIGHTS ON CURSOR NOT RESPONDING

I have the same problem with the 1023 MS wireless mouse. I called MS and they said that for a charge of $120 (the price of 1 yr service for my computer) they can fix the problem. I think it's cheaper to buy another (but different mfg) mouse. My computer operates quite well and don't believe I need this service.
Thanx...CPT
