Question about Dryers

New Whirlpool Dryer taking too long to dry

I don't know the average that it takes a large load of clothes to dry, but I just bought a new whirlpool front load dryer and it takes about 120 mins. for this thing to even retract moisture from the clothes. I had a 20 year old hotpoint dryer that I never had a problem with. I could dry clothes in about 40 mins and they come out crisp and hot. I'm wondering if I made a mistake on purchasing this item.

Old dryers worked on the premis, "bake them til they are done". Newer dryers are all about saving energy. Newer dryers rely far more on airflow than thier predecessors. Most likely if your clothes are taking 120 minutes to dry for a new dryer, you have a ventalation problem. Make sure (even if it was "professionally" installed) that the vent from the back of the dryer to your wall in not kinked, bent over, or other wise restricted. Also make sure when the air is venting to the outside of your house you can feel a fair amount of air pressure there. Bulid up over time or even a nest being built in your vent can cause a restriction on airflow. These can be cleaned by a professional service or many appliance and hardware sell cleaning brushes and kits. Worse case scenario, Whirlpool will pay for customer instructs for the first 6 months. So even if they have to come out and tell you it's a problem with your house vent or electrical supply, whirlpool can be billed for this. Of course if there was a manufacture defect off the production line, repairs are still covered under warranty as well.

What is automatic dry miser

Hello,
What the automatic dry miser is, is a sensor that measure how dry the clothes are and will adjust the time its going to take to dry the clothes throughout the entire cycle. If at the beginning it estimate it will take 40 minutes to sry a load but they are dry in only 25 minutes the dryer knows the clothes are dry and cuts the dryer off. Saving 15 minutes of unneeded gas and electric that it would run and waste power and gas since the clothes were dry already.

My whirlpool dryer will not dry clothes in one try.takes a second time to dry a load. especially jeans or towels

Make sure the lint filter is free of dirt. If this is a gas dryer, listen for the burner switch on. If you hear it switch on and switches off in less than a minute, you will need a new gas valve solenoid. This part goes part and goes on safety - switch off gas. In return you only get a air dry (not heated).

If your dryer is not drying like it once did or if you just have not taken the time to give yourself a clean dryer in a long time then you need to do that. At least once a year the dryer cleaning should take place. Lint build up in the dryer duct is one of the main causes for your dryer to fail.

Relatively new dryer takes several cycles to dry normal loads

Check the lint trap all the way down to vent, then make sure that the vent is not crushed in anyway. Depending on the way the person cleaned it they could have actually caused more of a clog

IF YOUR DRYER HEATS AT ALL, BUT WON'T DRY THE CLOTHES, 99 PERCENT OF THE TIME THERE IS A RESTRICTION IN THE AIR FLOW. PULL THE EXHAUST OFF OF THE BACK OF THE DRYER AND DRY ONE LOAD. IF IT DRIES O.K., THERE IS A RESTRICTION IN THE DUCT WORK.
CLEAN OUT THE LINT FROM THE DUCT WORK. IF THE DUCT WORK IS FLEXIBLE MATERIAL, REPLACE IT WITH RIGID 4 INCH METAL DUCT.
