How many holes is it supposed to have

I can not find a picture of the plate of this model iron. I have one and it has over 50 dimples that have no holes in them. There are no holes in the center of iron plate. Is that normal?

It is a steam iron and it is new (used it about three times) but it doesn't seem to glide across the cloth but seems to sort of get stuck. I thought maybe it was because it doesn't have enough steam coming through. I bought it at a big discount so i thought maybe a defective model had been sold to me without all of the steam vents.

I think you mis-read my post. It is a steam iron. the only open vents (holes) are on the outer part of the plate but there are about 50 dimples on the plate with no vents in them. They are just indentations but without holes. It seems to me that there should be more holes dipsersed aroung the bottom of the plate and not just at the edges. I don't seem to have the words to convey what I mean.

The only reason it would need holes is to allow steam to come out of the iron. Probably to save money, they used a different bottom from another model.

Sometimes is normal having different hole diagram on the iron Plate. That one is up To the engineer worked on the project. Some Company believe having more hole in the tip will increase the efficiency of your iron. Some other company believe having more hole on the side is better. If you have a chance to look a professional iron system..most of them have a triangle hole located on the tip and it`s been in that way for so long. This is different for regular home iron with less pressure and different Plate.

If the iron have not hole can not be a steam iron unless they invented something overnight. The hole is the only escape way to make the steam go to the fabric.

Why is there No steam from morphy Richards 42247 model steam generator?

It may be calcified or have lime scale. If the heater is "gummed up", it cannot heat properly. Try using either vinegar (takes longer) or an iron cleaner. You pour it in and it breaks up the scale. CLR works quite well too. Use pipe cleaners to clear out the holes in the sole plate.

Philips steam iron no steam and red tap light is flashing even when filled up with water it's still getting hot and water is boiling but steam fiction not working as red light will not go out

It sounds like the flow holes are CLOGGED with scale inside. To clean it out:

1. Drain the water/steam out the pour-in shoot at the top of the handle, over the sink. Is any crap coming out?

2. Take some VINEGAR and pour it straight into the fill pour-in shoot. Don\'t dilute it. Fill up the IRON to full line. Let the vinegar SOAK the inside of the COLD iron for 15-20 minutes, by placing it FACE DOWN on an old bath towel, on a heat-resistant surface, such as a granite counter top, or metal cookie sheet. Don\'t put the towel on the ironing board!!! It may get stained badly. Let it sit, COLD for 20 minutes. You can swirell the vinegar around by shaking the iron.

Stand it up on its flat end, with the vinegar inside, still. Take some fresh vinegar and dip Q-tips into the vinegar and clean the slots and holes on the bottom plate. Any burn streaks or soil can be removed with wiping the plate with vinegar. After you clean all the holes and slots with vinegar from the outside, TURN ON THE IRON with the vinegar inside. The vinegar will heat up and should come out the holes. If any holes are not blowing vinegar/steam, clean them with q-tips again. Don\'t let all of the vinegar inside steam out!! Just heat it enough to make sure all of the holes are clean. Some white film may come out of the holes on to the face plate--it is calcium build-up from using tap water in the iron.

Now DUMP out vinegar inside the iron and reservoir through the pour-shoot You may see crud and crap coming out. Repeat the process of filling it up, steaming through the holes etc. until the vinegar comes out clear!!!

DON\'T use tap water in any IRON. Use distilled water, or even bottled drinking water (without flavoring, additives, of course). This will prevent corrosion and calcium build up in the iron.

ALWAYS completely drain the iron from the pour-in spout each time you are finished using it!! After pouring out the tank\'s water, you can set the iron to STEAM HIGH, and force any water inside to boil off and out of iron.! Never keep water in the reservoir or iron.

I set my iron, when hot, and done using it, with the pointed side DOWN in the sink drain to make sure it is dry.

So clean it with vinegar often, use bottled drinking water or better, distilled water and it will prevent this.

Steam generator wetting clothes

Heating plate has come detached from the tank. You have to remove the base and tighten the bolts on the heat plate. This ensures that the necessary temperature can be reached and thus steam rather than water comes out. Unfortunately the base is secured with security screws (6 point star with centre hole) so you will need to get one of these to fix it. They are same as used to secure number plates and can be purchased on ebay or at car parts shop

Lost the details on how to clean Philips GC2540 iron. Please can you provide some information.

There are number of commercial cleaners available. CLR is one of them. You can also use 50% vinegar and 50% water.
Pour the mixture into the water chamber and let the iron sit overnight. Switch on the iron the next day and put it on steam. Hold the iron over the sink. The dirt will come out of the holes on the sole plate. If the iron is badly scaled you may need to repeat the process or use CLR following the instructions on the bottle.
Using distilled water in the iron will eliminate or reduce the need to de-scale the iron.

Sole plate leaking

This IS a steam iron? The iron must be hot for the steam to form. If it's not hot enough, the water is leaking thru the steam holes. Also if the channels are calsified (boiler stone has formed into the steam channels) this may happen.

It's a possibility that you iron steam making elements are caked with lime and possibly the steam holes as well.

Purchase some "Lime Away" and dilute it 50/50 and pour it into your steam iron (drain all the old water out first and leave the iron unpluged) let sit for an hour or so and drain out, fill it again with clear water shake and drain out do this a couple of time then turn on the steam and see if it works properly, use the first time on an old towel to be sure all the chemical has been rinced out. Good Luck.
