The Problem is that the output for the speakers. ( which is the place where you plug in the speakers ) might not been working correctly.

Thanks!!

My headphones will work but my desktop speakers will not why?

If your speakers work fine when plugged into the headphones socket on the front of the system, then there is no fault with them.
If the sound through the speakers is very low when plugged into the rear panel socket, that would suggest that you may be plugged into the line out socket rather than the speaker socket and that there is a mismatch of the impedence between the socket and speakers.
If you have three audio sockets on the rear panel, try the speakers in the second output socket (but not in the microphone socket) and see if it makes a difference.
You could try the same test using the headphones - do you still get good sound levels with the headphones when plugged in to the rear panel socket?
If neither the speakers nor headphones give good sound when plugged in to the rear panel, then you may have a problem with either the sound card if the sockets are on a separate PCI card, or with a poor connection on the cable to the socket header bracket from the motherboard pins for audio for integrated adapters.

So i have a dell computer with a built in speaker and the speaker is on the computer screen and it doesnt work at all so how do i make it work ?

make sure you're not on mute. Go to your control panel, click on "Hardware and Sound" and among the selections, choose "Manage Audio Devices" once you click it, a little window should pop up and would show the sound device on your computer usually the default is "Speakers/Headphones". It should show you a "check" on the device meaning it is enabled so that you should be able to hear sounds on your computer. if it doesnt show you a tick mark (usually) or if it shows you in "red color" it might be disabled and thats the reason why you dont hear anything on ur pc. if that's the case, simply "right click" the device and it will give you option to "enable" it. Choose enable, and make sure to click "OK" otherwise it wont take effect. try playing any audio on your pc again. If it did not resolve your issue, then maybe it must be some sound card issue which is another method. try this one first and see what happens. -please rate me if it helped you. :) if not, let me know and we'll go to your sound card diagnosis

Why does the audio cut out on acer z5700 speakers when you connect to a source at the audio output in the back.(expect this only when you connect headphones to headphone input)

When you connect headphones to your computer the computer will only send sound through the headphones and not allow sound to come out of the speakers. this is the way almost all audio drivers are setup, it detects the speakers and the headphones as 2 different devices and will only play sound through one (headphones first and if there are no headphones then speakers).

The only way I know to resolve this (and I hate this suggestion) is to purchase a headphone splitter. Connect the speakers and the headphones through the splitter, the quality of the splitter will determine the quality of the sound.

You could try going to the audio driver options (if there is any program installed by the audio driver) to see if you can get it to play through both but with both my Acer laptops I have been unsuccessful.

Hope this helps.

Simply no sound from PC

Check if you have plugged in the stereo pin to the right port on the PC.
Open sound control (in control panel) and check if the both speaker(main volume) and the wave volume sliders are not set to the lowest.

Can't get headphone jack on front of computer to work

The headphone jack up front may not be connected to the PC's integrated audio on the motherboard (or to the PC's sound card if you purchased one with the system instead. There'll be an audio cable running from the front of the computer to a port on the motherboard. If you look at this motherboard diagram for the Vostro 220 (not the 420 or 220s), it'll be the port numbered "15" that's the opne for the audio for the front panel. You don't need the speakers plugged on the back to have the headphones work, but having them plugged in will at least tell you if the sound is working or not.

Speakers not working.................

Check the following,
  • Speakers, connecting cables and Sound Card are working fine by connecting to another computer.
  • Speaker Cable is connected to an audio port (Audio/Video port in system box).
  • Volume is MUTE / Low (in Volume Controller).
  • Audio drivers have installed.
To Check follow the Steps:
• Go to Start>
• Control panel>
• Double click on "System" Icon> (it shows the System Properties Window)
• Select “Hardware” Tab>
• Select “Device Manager” Tab> (it shows the Device Manager Window)
• Select “Sound, video and game controllers”>
• Expand “+” symbol> (check the audio Codecs, Legacy Audio Drivers and others are not in Questioned Mark (?) symbol with yellow color. If there need to install the drivers ).
  • If not, insert the motherboad CD, browse>select audio driver>install. After completion, restart computer and check.
