No blue manual convergence - Samsung pcj522r

Replaced convergence ic,s no improvement. Manual red convergence works, but blue still does not. Noticed that red and green CRT,s reflect their colors when a light is shined at them, but blue does not, no blue reflective color. Could the blue CRT be bad and not manual converge?

Red and green have movement when tv is on, blue might brighten a little but just a flat blue not like a picture is being projected like in the red and green. Like I said red and green have high reflection when you shine a flashlight in them, the blue does not, and its not even blue more like a real light purple.

So you agree that with it off the blue crt show shine blue when you shine a flashlight at it? Cause it does not. Red and green reflect their colors. When the set is on, it lights up blue, but is like just turning a blue colored light on. I do not see any kind of movement in the tube like the red and green.

How about looking into the tube when its on. if its cloudy then change the fluid in the tubes that need it. usually the blue on these seem to be the first to need it. I have never replaced the crt on these.

Thats a very strong possibilty the phosphorus may be burned off the CRT face. Does the blue project when powerd up and looking in from the raer of the set? Look into the blue CRT lens while its playing If you can see a clear picture I would think that you have some open resistors in the blue circuit, If you cant see a picture its time for a CRT. If you need a CRT let me Know I have a good source for them Used.

yes, your tube is bad if no image is present most likely a phosphuorus issue. The link I posted has the tubes for your model at a real inexspensive price which includes free shipping. you can save a couple hundred getting it there.

Most of these Philips sets use two STK-392-120 convergence IC chips; if you can locate them inside look at all the little blue resistors to the left and front of them---these are feedback (protect) parts---if any of them are discolored in the middle--not powder blue but somewhat white in the middle---you have a bad ic and both need to be replaced---most of the protect resistors are 6.8 ohm in value. If this has been helpful give me a vote.

This sounds like the convergence IC's are bad. You should also check the resistors around the IC for open there could also be open pico fuses.

Blue convergence

yes you can just replace the board as a unit , but they are pretty exspensive compared to replacing the ICs as the ICs are what wear out.

Ksherer,

The adjustments that your are trying to make, I do from standard menu. I did not have to enter service mode with mute 1-8-2 to make them. I have same model PCN5425R

Everybody here seems to have basically the same problem so I will write a general fix for these Samsungs. First what you got is known as Convergence failure, A Ic or resistor, fuse or some other component has failed in the convergence circuit. So finding the service menu and trying to align the colors or spinning magnets on the CRT’s or a real bad idea of tipping a CRT or mirror would be the equitant of ripping the transmission out of your car because it had a flat tire. When the convergence fails no adjustment will bring it back, and if you do one of these stupid things then you have two problems. Now most of these Samsungs have an easily replicable board that all the convergence amplifiers are on. This can be found by removing the back and seeing if there is a board about 9 X 5 inches big and mounted to the CRT mounts, there will be 5 connector to this board. Now if your set does not have this board and instead has the two convergence Ic’s (these are about the size of a playing card and have the numbers STK392-040 on them) mount down on a board below and to the right ( this is known as the deflection board) this repair will not work for you. Instead you will need to component level repair the convergence circuit. But if you do have this separate convergence board the repair is fairly straight forward. Go to www.vancebaldwin.com or some other supplier and order BP95-00142E this is the convergence board. This board has been crossed several times through the years but this is the current version. Now once you get this board simply replace it making sure to get al the connector back in there original spot. The fire up the set and run Flash focus and for about 95% this will fix the set

Convergence

Your going to need to check the schematic and check the b+ going to the IC's as there maybe a bad capacitor. When the new IC's are installed it loads down the set or power supply. Its the bad power supply or the IC's are defective, but im thinking the power supply.
