Question about Canon PowerShot S2 IS Digital Camera

Blurry action shots

Hi,
I have the Canon sx100 digital camera. The only action mode that it seems to have is for "kids and pets". I took a few shots with it and they all came out blurry. Any thoughts? Thanks! :)

Thank you, thank you talorm!!!!!!! I took some awesome shots with it tonight -stopped my action on a dime! I'm new to all of this so am going to do some reading on Fstops and ISO's, but at least now I have some confidence in taking the shots and in my new camera. Thanks again!!!!!!

Try using the manual setting. Put the exposure to the highest setting, which would probably be about 1/1000 of a second. If you're shooting in not so good light 1/200 is good also.

I am trying to take action pictures on my kids in sports, everything is blurry. The continuous shooting mode is slow. Do I just need a better camera or is there a setting fix for this?

Hi, If you find the continuous shooting mode and the sports mode just isn't cutting it I'd suggest a batter camera. Depending on your price range and size my suggestion would be a Canon S95 or moving up to a DSLR. If your need more help with choosing a camera let me know and I can give you a hand =)

Pictures turn out blurry..why?

One of the internal lens assemblies has probably come loose inside the lens. It happens often when the camera gets dropped. It requires major disassembly of the camera to get the lens unit out to work on it. Usually costs around $68.50 to fix.

Shutter too slow and pics of people blurry. I have the camera on auto setting, push button half way down, focus, then all the way, take the pic. If the subject is moving AT ALL, the pic comes out blurry....

If your camera has a sport or action mode that would be your best option if your pics keep coming out blurry. These modes are made for action shots. Its worth a try!

Blurry action pictures!

This Powershot A590 camera has a Kids and Pets mode that may help. If that doesn't work, you need to set your camera to Shutter Priority (TV) mode on the dial. Then you use the arrows to increase or decrease the shutter speed setting. Depending on the sport/action, your shutter may need to be 1/400 up to 1/1000 or higher.

You may find you don't have enough light to get a fast shutter speed at the standard ISO, so you may also need to increase the ISO. Only increase it as much as needed to get your shots, and don't forget to return it to a lower ISO when you are done. You set the ISO from the Func/Set button menu.

You will have a relatively shallow area of focus (called depth of field) unless you have a LOT of light and are using a relatively slower shutter (e.g. 1/400 vs 1/1000). So be sure to keep the center of the focus on the player you are shooting.

Check your user manual for instructions on how to change to the AV mode and how to set the ISO. If you don't have your user manual, you can download it here, from Canon.

Finally, this type of camera tends to have a lot of "shutter lag" between when you press the shutter and when it takes the photo. You need to plan ahead and press the shutter in advance of the "peak action" when you want to capture the photo.

I need help taking action pictures - 90% of them come out blurry

I would suggest using the Kids & Pets option, but you have to use a flash for that to work. I have been trying to figure out a way to take clear action photos without a flash, but I think it's impossible.

Blurry video

Hi,

I think the issue is that you have just chosen the compact video setting.
To change it go to video mode and scroll the wheel to normal mode...thats it..
