Print server thinks printer is offline

I have a Lexmark X5495 that has been connected directly to my computer and works great. I just bought a usb print server to eliminate the need for cords. The print server is plugged into the router and printer and my laptop can see the server. But, the server tells me the printer is offline when I try to install the network printer or update certain settings related to the printer.

Disconnect from the net and turn off your firewall while trying to install.

There are two things to configure for a wireless printer - The Printer Server and The Printer Port
Two devices communicate by using a protocol (a language) that both receive and understand.
Configuring the Print Server is usually adequately explained by the Vendor - configuring the Printer Port may not be. A wireless printer Server can show Ready and Connected but connected means "with your network".
To be Online means communicating through a protocol on the Printer Port on your computer.
Bringing a wireless printer ONline may be as simple as a printer port configuration tweak.

    BACKGROUND:
Standard port monitor sends documents to a printer using either the RAW or LPR printing protocols. Together, these protocols support most current TCP/IP printers. For network-connected print devices, the standard TCP/IP port monitor is the best choice. Standard port monitor is the successor to line printer remote (LPR). Standard port monitor is faster, more scalable, and bidirectional. Standard port monitor uses TCP/IP as the transport protocol. Standard port monitor also uses the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) to configure and monitor the printer's status. SNMP Service must be enabled on your computer.

Some Brother users have found that by first configuring the printer Port protocol to RAW TCP/IP and then configuring the printer server, brings the printer online and keeps it there.

To configure the "printer port" select your default printer - Right Click properties and the Printer Port Configuration Pages will appear.

How can I fix printing hesitation on my lexmark x5495

A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Simply disconnect the printer from your computer (if USB connected)> reboot your pc > unplug and re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns on, reconnect it to your computer (if USB connected). Then try to print again once the computer fully recognizes the USB connection or when the WiFi light on the printer turns solid green (if WiFi connected.).

If that doesn't help, try the steps below:

  1. Disconnect the USB cable connecting the printer from your computer.
  2. On your computer, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes.
  3. Delete the Lexmark print object.
  4. Reboot computer.
  5. Re-brick your printer by pulling out the power supply - black box where the power cord is plugged into on the back of the printer, and re-plug after 30 seconds.
  6. When the printer turns on, reconnect it to the computer.
  7. Wait until your computer fully recognizes the USB connection. To check, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes. If you see a new Lexmark print object in the list, try to print a document to verify that the problem is fixed.

You may also try to update your printer driver by visiting the Lexmark website at http://bit.ly/hsBChY. Select your operating system, download and execute the file.

Is the Lexmark x5495 wireless? If it is, how do you connect it to a laptop. I lost my installation disk.

The Lexmark X5495 printer is not a wireless printer, however, you have the option to connect it to a wireless print server. You can then connect the wireless print server to your wireless network so all the computers connected to your network will have access to the printer.
To connect the printer to your laptop, please visit the Lexmark website at http://bit.ly/hsBChY to download and install the printer driver. Execute the file and follow the instructions on your computer screen.

If i try to print, it says printer offline. it's turned on and plugged in, why can't i print from my computer? windows 7 if that helps with instructions

How are you connected to the printer? Is it a direct USB connection or a USB hub or print server?

If you are using a USB hub or print server, try a direct USB connection. (A cord of 6 feet in length or shorter is preferred.) Try a different USB port and a different cable. Make sure that both ends of the cable are well-seated. Next make sure that a known working USB device properly connects to the computer.

Next check if the USB ports are disabled due to errors, for security or power-savings. For the first check the device manager. Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Device Manager. Scroll down for the USB devices. If you see a red x or a yellow exclamation point in a triangle, try updating the drivers or enabling the USB devices. The third item is an advanced setting that you can access by right clicking on the desktop (anywhere there are no running programs or icons). Select Personalize > Screen Saver, next select change power settings. Then click the link to the Change the Plan settings. Then click the Change Advanced Power Settings link. Scroll down and check for when USB devices power down and adjust this setting.

If the above do not work, try uninstalling the printer, then remove the data cable. Reboot the computer and reinstall the printer from the CD or downloaded file from Canon. Connect the USB cable when prompted to do so.

I hope this helps.

HOW TO REFILL LEXMARK X5495 PRINTER

When you try refilling your ink cartridges, you are taking chances that something may go wrong. I would search the web and purchase re-manufactured ink cartridges, which would be less expensive than the new ones from Lexmark.
